call me crazy but i dare say even.
Hagler was a top 3 middleweight in my opinion and Hearns is a top5 WW. But i feel that Haglers Durability, Aggression and determination set him ever so slightly ahead of the pure boxing skill, sheer power, footwork and grace of Thomas Hearns. Hearns is a p4p king, being able to fight effectively from WW to cruiser weight. There not the best of all time in either department, but their skills, training and dependability mark them well above most of the fighters in the world.
I'm definitely going to say even.

People are saying Hagler is a top five/three MW, while Hearns is only a top ten/five WW. Don't forget that Hearns easily places top five at 154 too, and can be argued as number one. Not that I have him at 1, but he could be argued as such and many do place him atop the division.
I find this a difficult one. I think Hearns accomplished more overall, but then he lost some of his biggest fights, one of them to Hagler. Leonard beat both both of them, but Hearns was also robbed against Leonard in the rematch and should have a win over him. I for one don't count blatant robberies against a fighter and do include it as a win for them. It's a bureaucratic thing which the fighters simply don't have the slightest control over and we should not punish them according to some corrupt money hungry judges, managers, promoters etc. He won the fight, there is no dis*****g that, but he couldn't beat the judges and the money.
He was the WBA WW champ, WBC JMW champ, WBC MW champ, WBO SMW, two time WBC LHW champ and also beat former, long time WBC champ Nate Miller at CW for the minor IBO title. His wins include-HOFers: Wilfred Benitez, Roberto Duran, Ray Leonard (I'm gonna include it because it was a win), Pipino Cuevas and an undefeated Virgil Hill. His other big wins and the top fighters/contenders/champs of his day include: Clyde Gray 65-6, Bruce Curry 24-4, Saensak Muangsurin 15-3, Angel Espada 43-10, Marcos Geraldo 49-15, Murray Sutherland 39-10, Randy Shields 38-6, Luigi Minchillo 43-2, Fred Hutchings 27-1, James Schuler 22-0, Mark Medal 24-2, Doug DeWitt 27-3, Eddie Gazo 43-5, Dennis Andries 28-6, Juan Roldan 65-3, James Kinchen 45-4, Michael Olijade 27-3, Nate Miller, Lenny LaPaglia. The bolded are world champions and the others top ranked contenders and title challengers. His major losses are against HOFers and great champions Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Iran Barkley (only guy to ever decision Hearns) and Uriah Grant right at the end of his career.
I think he is very underrated and I have to put him just above Hagler. But, I do think of them as basically equal and often change my mind. For accomplishments, I don't believe Hagler achieved as much overall. As a MW he is truly amazing, but P4P I don't think he has the resume or depth of Hearns, although unifying in an underrated era for a decade nearly and also beating Hearns....
It's a hard one. Either guy can easily be argued as above the other. Their titles runs, Hagler's at 160 (unifying and making twelve defenses of the Undisputed 160 title and reigning for about eight years) and Hearns' at 147 (four defenses), 154 (four defenses), 160 (lost in first defense), 168 (two defenses), 175 (lost in first defense) kind of cancel each other for me. then it becomes a case of their opponents and I believe that Hearns faced the greater depth of opposition over a larger scope too. From HOFers Ray Leonard and Cuevas at 147, Duran and Benitez at 154, Hagler and Barkley (albeit in losses) at 160 and Dennis Andries and Virgill Hill at 175. They are all the top of their divisions and historically significant in those divisions....well, except for Duran at 154 as he was just a title holder briefly.

both fighters performances against Ray Leonard put Hearns ahead of Hagler and its folly to claim Hagler was old otherwise we then bring into account Hearns breaking his right-hand in the opening round against Hagler,
Hagler struggled with Duran beating him by one point on all judges scorecards after rallying to win the final round, Hearns `Bombed-out`Duran in less than 2rds, Haglers performance against Juan Roldan & Marcos Geraldo are poor compared to how Hearns dealt with those 2 fighters so Hearns breaking his right-hand in the opening round is a huge issue with Hagler never wanting to face Hearns in a rematch.
Hearns ranks as the greater of the two in my opinion.
