Ranking Carmen Basilio Over Marvin Hagler, Can It Be Justified?

Well? Do you think there can be a strong argument for ranking the onion picker over Hagler? And does anyone actually think this?

bert sugar or some other old timers might say that basilio fought better competition than hagler because of his fights with SRR and he fought more hall of famers but i wouldn't call it a strong argument

Hagler was the greater fighter of the 2 and achieved most yet in a H2H i think Basilio beats Hagler as he was 5 Vito Antuofermo's rolled into one

Its all opinion, but I don't see to many fighter winning a fight with Hagler by bringing the fight to him. Hagler needed to be frustrated and out boxed in my opinion, brawling with him always seemed a recipe for disaster.

You are right JAB but I would like to point out that Basilio was strong, incredibly strong and had an excellent chin...He was no Hearns, he is going to give as much as he takes, and if Robinson found it hard to KO him I don't see Hagler doing it either...I see Hagler decisioning him...But Basilio had a good punch, great chin , excellent stamina and a pair of balls of steel. Not the kind of guy you out brawl easily ...In a 5 fight series I see Basilio winning some...though Hagler will probably take it.

The fact that it was might dangerous o trade with Basilio is born out by the fact that Gene Fullmer another wade in punch hard type of guy changed his tactic to fight Basilio...He won the match but had he traded with Carmen it would have might dangerous for him and he knew it.
