Duran fully expected another quick rematch to redeem himself. That's why he quit. He had no idea he'd be ancient by the time another fight came around.

I would have lose a lot more respect for Duran if he quit due to taking a beating and bitching out. He quit because he got frustrated and lost his temper.

Still a shitty move, but Duran proved he wasn't a quitter in all the fights he had 21 years after the "no mas" incident. 21 years and 40+ fights was more than enough to redeem himself.

Which is why he quit. He wasn't in shape, wasn't ready to fight, and didn't really care. It was bad, but certainly nothing that ruins Duran's legacy.

i think duran was overrated going into the fight,he barely one a controversial decision in montreal, and from the openiong bell of the first round in new orleans he was getting schooled,he had noway out, either get kayoed or quit, and he quit, purely overrated fighter

He more than made up for it when his cornerman at the Hearns fight after the first round was going to stop the fight because of the beating he took Duran said he didn't want him to stop the fight he wanted to carry on. Anyone who goes out of their way to go out to someone they just got hammered from gets my respect.

They were the judge's scorecards and that's what counts. Unless you're saying their scorecards aren't important? lmao.

Duran was a very prideful man, and he seemed to treat boxing like his job and liked to keep things professional (for the most part). With that sort of mentality, I think it really got to him with Ray's excessive taunting and avoiding to fight rugged in that fight like the first (from what I heard). I think it just really got to him, and because he was so prideful, he wanted to walk out with a middle-finger in the air aimed at Ray.
Just what I think anyone, take it with a grain of salt.
So just because SRL chose to use more foot movement and boxing skills, that suddenly permits Duran to quit whenever he feels like it?

It's a fight and you're supposed to do everything you can to win. Duran, however, chose to lose.

Duran Quit plain and simple, he could not deal with Leonards tactics of mocking him and showboating:

I thought I heard he had ate some food that was giving him a problem. I don't think any boxers would fight with their own feces running out their shorts. I think it is a legitimate reason to stop fighting. So I did not lose respect for him.

I have not seen the fight in a long time, But it seemed weird that Duran quit like that.

You can take someone's word against Duran's if you want. And you might be right, or you could be wrong.

But it is the only time Duran quit in a fight. And he said he had stomach problems. So I choose to believe him, you can believe that he quit for other reasons as much as you want to believe them. But I think you are probably wrong.

Duran proved that he could handle losing why did he not quit against Camacho or some of the other fighters that beat him?
