Not at all. Ali ranks higher due to the competition he fought, his abilities as fighter, greatness as a man, impact on the sport etc..
Sam Langford>>>Muhammad Ali?

Langford is P4P the greatest fighter of all time. Ali might be considered the greatest HW of all time , although George Foreman proved he was better .
Langford was a 5'7" or less whom stopped men up to 6'6" .
He was never a natural HW : he started his career at WW (more exactly it was at a weight considered today LWW) . Langford moved up in weight because he established his supremacy at any weight below HW and was avoided by almost every white champion or contender of his time and by the black reigning HW champion Jack Johnson whom outpointed him when Langford was not yet grown and still lacked experience.
Most of the big men he fought were also significantly younger than him.
As for the accusation that Langford ducked Jeffries Langford was 16 when Jeffries became the HW champion of the world an 22 when Jeffries retired undefeated . Langford was a WW in today's terms when Jeffries retired undefeated how could he have ducked Jeffries ?
Langford ducked now one.
He was ducked by some , however , especially by those who held the titles in his time. Tiger Flowers whom outpointed Harry Greb twice was destroyed by Langford , not to mention those days biggest HW contenders whom Langford managed to stop way outside of his prime years and natural weight.
For a big portion of his career he was almost blind.
For everyone seeking to know what P4P means I recommend to study more about Sam Langford and his career.
Considering Ali a LHW at any age later than 18 is just wrong.
Amateur's weight limit for LHW is 178 not 175.
Another thing is Ali grew physically since age 18 when he made 178 for the 1960 Olympic games. And does anyone consider a 1960 Cassius Clay at his physical prime ?Comment

Langford was outweighed by quite a bit though.Last edited by NChristo; 09-08-2010, 10:13 AM.Comment

So you think that all the Racism in that era is just fake, never existed and it was the black fighters that were avoiding the whites ?, even though Jeffries, Sullivan and others have said that they would never challenge a black man ?.Comment

Spot on with the rest of your post though.Last edited by Jim Jeffries; 09-08-2010, 10:32 AM.Comment

I suggest the young man reads John L's reply to a challange from Peter Jackson. He may change his view, if he doesn't then he's just being a moron.Comment

Eh true, I'm sure I read somewhere that he said he'd never challenge a black man and that he said it while Johnson was trying to get the fight, but he was probably saying it because it's what the public wanted and he didn't want to fight anymore. Not denying he didn't fight them obviously, just thought he said it.
Either way I don't see how Zizou can argue that the Racism in that era is a 'Myth' :/.Comment
