  • What's up with ali's gloves in fight III with frazier?

it gets worse as the fight goes on and then frazier gets a big knot that's on and over his eye

Im not quite sure what you mean. If you could explain yourself better or provide a picture it would be helpful.

That said I will speculate it has something to do with the padding in his gloves being pushed up or to a side. Gloves back then weren't the same as today. They didn't have molded padding but were stuffed with horse hair which often shifted (but not always) as the fight went on.

Not sure that is what you're talking about, but its all I can think of without more information.

His gloves were soaked with water due to the 110 degree heat and the wicked humidity.Every source I heard from said the humidity was worse than the 110 degrees, thus the gloves filling with water.

Angelo Dundee also said what I said above.Yes,I saw how Ali's gloves looked in pictures and watching the fight. They looked crooked and indedted, and looked like no padding in certain places. And all the padding at the end of the gloves.I know what your talking about.Again,it was because of the heat and wicked humidity, that the gloves became water soaked.

Yes,I also noticed Frazier's gloves did not look like Ali's.I don't know why.

But I do know that Ali's gloves getting filled with water did not help him.In fact, they slowed down the speed of his punches.

I do not think any foul play took place. If so,Ali would have KO'd Frazier with all the punches he was hitting him with in the early rounds.

I will watch the fight again, and look more closely at Frazier's gloves.

I know when I used to box, that my hands would sweat alot and slightly fill the gloves with water. But that was for only 3 rounds.

I would imgine it had to do with how each threw their punches. Frazier's hands were mostly balled into fists. Ali had his hands open much of the time and would leave them open till right before landing a punch. All the padding would have moved forward from the weight if the fist wasn't consistently closed. Im not saying this as fact, but when I fought in the late 80's, early 90's, there was a gym I trained at with an old pair of horse hair gloves and that is how it seemed to me with them.

They were using the same type of gloves. Back then, that was the standard. Nowadays, they sometimes let each fighter use their own, favorite brand.
