That said I will speculate it has something to do with the padding in his gloves being pushed up or to a side. Gloves back then weren't the same as today. They didn't have molded padding but were stuffed with horse hair which often shifted (but not always) as the fight went on.
Not sure that is what you're talking about, but its all I can think of without more information.

Angelo Dundee also said what I said above.Yes,I saw how Ali's gloves looked in pictures and watching the fight. They looked crooked and indedted, and looked like no padding in certain places. And all the padding at the end of the gloves.I know what your talking about.Again,it was because of the heat and wicked humidity, that the gloves became water soaked.

But I do know that Ali's gloves getting filled with water did not help him.In fact, they slowed down the speed of his punches.
I do not think any foul play took place. If so,Ali would have KO'd Frazier with all the punches he was hitting him with in the early rounds.
I will watch the fight again, and look more closely at Frazier's gloves.
I know when I used to box, that my hands would sweat alot and slightly fill the gloves with water. But that was for only 3 rounds.
