  • How would Mike Tyson have fared against a great swarming fighter?

    Like a Frazier or Marciano?

Those who have seen my posts know that I am not a fan of Tyson at all; I generally think his picture should appear in the dictionary next to "overrates". I wonder, however, how he'd have done against a guy who fought like him. Unless one of the bums he fought early in his career was a shorter, pressure fighter, everyone he faced would be classified as either a boxer or a slugger (mostly the former; aside from Bonecrusher Smith, Tony Tubbs, and Frank Bruno, and Razor Ruddock who could be considered sluggers.)

Obviously he would have done fine. Tyson had a great chin and we all know his power. The only way a swarmer would beat him is if they have a great chin/heart and break Tyson late, which I think only Joe Frazier could do.

Other than that, Tyson would beat someone who fights like he does.

I don't think Joe Frazier would be the one to do it. I mean, it's a possibility since the man was very very tough. I just don't think a prime 205 lb Joe has the strength to match Tysons in this match up. Especially on Tysons way up to the title. After Tyson became undisputed, def a possibility. All Frazier has to do is hang in there for the first 5, if he can do that he breaks mike down. Peak for Peak though, I see Frazier getting caught with an uppercut.

Bonavena knocked Frazier down not once but twice , just imagine what Tyson or Tua would have done to him instead of Bonavena .

Archie Moore and Jersey Joe knocked Marciano Down , just imagine what would Tyson or Tua do to him.

Tyson was bigger, stronger, faster, and hit harder than both Frazier and Marciano.

Frazier was a slow starter and Tyson would blitz him in the first or second round.

Tyson would also destroy Marciano in the first or second round.

Only a 215lb Jack Dempsey could have beaten Mike Tyson.Maybe

Has no one watched Tyson vs Buster Mathis Jnr?

Granted its a comebacking, rusty Tyson vs a fringe world class opperator with his daddies name..............but believe me Buster gave Tyson no space for three rounds. As soon as Tyson did get space it was over!

The problems I see for Tyson against great pressure fighters/swarmers is that he tends to give ground in close, even with his size advantages, and he wasn't a great infighter, not even as good as Floyd Patterson which is surprising. Regardless of all that he has a very good chance of taking out Marciano and Frazier early, but I do wonder how he would respond to someone like Frazier continuing to pressure him against the ropes if Frazier were to survive the early rounds.

mike didn't like to get roughed up. if you could outmuscle him you could make him earn his paycheck. i think some of the great swarmers were just a little too small for him though.
