  • Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman - the importance of fetching the ring

Does anyone else here feel the outcome would have been different had the ring's ropes were tight as they are and were at any other fight in history and today ? Dundee was a dirty man and so is Don King for this matter.

During the fight, Archie Moore realised what Ali was doing and tried to warn Foreman, but Foreman refused to listen to him. To tell the truth, I think Ali could of used the same tactic with tighter ropes anyway

      I agree with this ^.

But I feel that Ali still would of won if the ropes were tighter, Foreman would still be tiring himself out and I think Ali could have still took it to the late rounds and finish him in the same fashion he did. JMO.

The ropes were loose because they fought in a 16 foot ring!

Normally championship fights are in 20-24 foot rings. The ropes were loose because they were using the ropes for a 20 foot ring.Foreman has many times made excuses for losing that fight including saying that the ropes were loose.

On one hand Foreman says the ropes were to loose, and that's why he got beat. But he fails to mention the ropes were loose because he got his 16 foot ring from Don King.

Ali could have still layed on the ropes and beat Foreman if the ropes were tight. But if he had a 20-24 foot ring(Like he should have)he could have fought Foreman using more movement, and stopped him when George got tired fighting him that way.

Either way,Ali would have beat big George.

Had the ropes been tighter Ali's body would have absorbed larger amounts of energy and besides , it would have been much harder , I claim : impossible , to evade those punches using the same tactic he used.

And if he could have used another tactic (dancing) then why didn't he ?
If he could dance away , he would not even have taken the weakened (weakened by the ropes' movement) punches he took.

            But tighter ropes mean :
            (1) harder punches taken
            (2) punches are harder to evade

So could Ali repeating the same feat after taking much more punishment ?
            I say no.

I agree it would of been much harder, not sure about the impossible part though

Its been a while since Ive seen that fight, ill have to get back to you after I watched it again. Im sure Ali would of come up with something else like dancing and excessive clinching like he did in Frazier II. Mosley Margarito also comes to mind

He didn't dance because he could not dance in a 16 foot ring!

Please read my other post,it will answer your questions.

Yup he would take a lot more punishment and Foreman would more then likely score a KD but he would still be tiring himself out with the amount of large swings he would be throwing, I think it depends on if Ali could get through the extra pain and possible KD which I would think he could and like I said before finish it the same way as he did.

Don't think Ali would get in the ring again though, he took significant damage in the fight as it was with the ropes loose.
