  • Was Agapito Sanchez beating Manny Pacquiao?

I remember this fight well and the controversial ending. A technical draw.

The scores went 58-54 Manny, 57-55 Sanchez and 56-56 after six rounds, Sanchez lost two points on fouls, without the deduction, The dominican would have been ahead 5 rounds to 1 on one judge scorecards, and 4 to 2 on the other.

In an interview prior to Sanchez's tragic passing, he was often quote as saying he gave Pacquiao his toughest fight ever.

Sanchez fought a fight of illegal tactics and should have been disqualified, he knew that if he boxed under the marques of queensbury rules he had not a chance, Pacquiao was robbed of a victory

nah not really, he fouled Pacquiao so many times it's any wonder Pacquiao had a hard time with him.

Even without the fouls,Sanchez was frustrating and creating problems for Pacquiao,no doubt about that.I still thought Pacquiao should have gotten the nod tho.

It was a weird fight and Sanchez was giving Pac a lot of trouble. Whether or not the dirty fighting was wrong or not doesn't really matter. He found a way to get to Pac and did what was necessary for him to win.

Honestly, Pacquiao was so frustrated I could have seen him nearly give up. He looked like he was able to at a few times in the fight and he just couldn't get anything happening.

It would have gone two ways: Pac wears him down and stops him or wins a close decision or Sanchez frustrates him so badly he lets the fight get stopped or even stops it himself or Sanchez wins a very close decision because Pac had stopped fighting properly.

Anyway, if I was Sanchez and I had that much of a size difference to get past, I too would do anything to win even if it meant getting points deducted to frustrate him. Hatton mauled Tszyu and got away with everything to win. Sanchez clinched and frustrated Pac inside and against a guy with Pac's size advantage, it looked like Williams fighting Mitchell or Cotto and Margarito, are you just going to sit on the outside and let him punch you?

I was disappointed by the outcome that night, even if it was a technical draw, a rematch isn't feasible, owing to Sanchez' dirty tactics.

                lol at this

Pacquiao isnt huge at 122. If anything Sanchez looks bigger but shorter. How about Mike Tyson vs Frank Bruno?

Pacquiao was frustrated because the bout was stopped and he wanted to continue.

And you're say Sanchez fouling 588 times doesnt matter because of size mismatch which isnt actually there?

Minus 2 points isnt actualy fair. he should be disqualified. Marty Denkin is an old old shot ref at the time.

People always talk about the controversy of this fight, but never talk about the fight Pac had with Nedal Hussein an undefeated Australian fighter trained by Jeff Fenech. Pacquaio who now is willing to take the best shots by natural WW's like Cotto was on knocked down and on ***** street by a stiff jab from Hussein. Carlos Padilla a fillipino judge in the phillippines gave a slow count and allowed Pac to recover by failing to seperate the fighters as Hussein came in for the kill. Even Pac's wife jinkee was crying as the fight was almost over. Since Padilla didn't seperate the fighters Hussein threw an elbow at pac to get him off and of course Padilla than deducts Hussein a point and gives pac more recovery time.

The icing of the cake came when Padilla gave a premature hometown stoppage to stop the fight.

As far as Sanchez he was dirty in the fight. He used low blows and head butts, but make no mistake the speed and movements of Sanchez did give Pac some trouble.
