  • Worst 'Champion' in Boxing History

I would like to know who you think the worst 'champion' in boxing history is?

Not having that much info on this subject i was wondering who springs to mind, to me it has to be Sven Ottke. He has 'claim' to 21 title defences, but having never left his country except once to Austria he seems to have the german way of scoring on his side also. With controversial points victories over the likes of Robin reid, Charles Brewster and Thomas Tate and retiring as an undefeated world 'champion' with no real hall of famer or ATG fighers on his resume!

    * dam just read back it does sound like i am on a hate mission, should have been slightly less biased.

Depends. There were fluke Champions like Buster Douglas and Hasim Rahman. Many call them the worst champions in history because their title reign was short and simply a fluke.

If you mean who reigned as champion and was looked to as many to be a legit champion, then I have to go with Lennox Lewis as the worst champion in history.

The southpaw McCoy reigned as the middleweight champion for more than 3 years during 1914-1917 and was involved in numerous fights during that period, of which he lost nearly all aside from his first round KO title win over George Chip, viewed by many as a fluke. Chip later avenged the loss on a 10 round decision. McCoy however could not lose his title on a newspaper decision and kept his title despite losing fight after fight while only barely hanging on to last the distance. The title could only be won on a KO then, or if there were judges scoring the bout, so McCoy held onto his title as he only put the title on a line in case he was stopped. Eventually Mike O'Dowd knocked him out and ended his reign of error.

Here you can watch O'Dowd KO'ing him:

                  Buster Douglas
He didnt even train for his first defence and got wiped out in three rounds by a CW.

Buster was good enough to dish out a serious beating to Oliver McCall
