  • Favorite Rising Star?

Which young fighter is your favorite? How about best?

I don't know about best, but I'm starting to become a Devon Alexander fan. He's a sharp fighter, almost like a Pernell Whitaker-lite, the way he stays in the pocket, makes you miss and throws a lot of punches.

    Jorge Linares

    27(17)-1(1)-0

Only 24 years of age, turning 25 this year I guess. Already tasted the glory of being champion. Earned his title by stopping Oscar Larios in 10, a year after Pacquiao UD'd him. Already tasted the sting of defeat, which will only make him better. His footwork is great, has kayo power in both hands, fast hands, goes to the body and uptop, the body to go multiple divisions(5'8"), very intelligent.

Everything about this guy says "future ATG". As long as he fights the top competition and I don't think he will be sheltered much because GBP's worse problem is setting up their fighters with real threats.

Future all-time great? I doubt it.

He just came off a close decision with an unknown journeyman, after getting knocked out in one round by another unknown journeyman.

Knocked out by an undefeated(at the time; 20-0-1) unknown journeyman. Just because you don't have the best promoting doesn't mean your not a good boxer.

He has all the tools to become a great boxer. All he needs is experience, he's kinda green. Because his knockout loss was a result of jumping up way to fast after a flash knockdown. A perfect example is Marquez, he gets flash knockdowned but waits before he gets up, thats the experience factor.

That undefeated journeyman wound up get knocked out, in his next fight.

What do you mean by the promoting thing? You're saying that he should be protected from fighters that pose a serious challenge to him? That doesn't sound like the formula to become an all-time great, to me.

I'm not trying to say that he can't pick himself up and become a world champion again, though. But become an all-time great? Nah.

I mean't Salgado's promoting. It is funny that he got tko'd in the 12th though.

Linares has all the tools to become an atg, as long as he fights the cream of the crop.

Look at the guy's skill set, he has it all, he just needs to be seasoned. He's only 24 at that. Hell, he's younger than Juanma, Gamboa and 1 year older than Devon Alexander. And you compare skill sets, Linares is above all of them. lol

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. All you can do is wish him the best.
