Mike Tyson vs Joe Louis

mike's best chance is to catch louis with big hooks in the clinch, especially to the body. i doubt he'd really be able to hit joe with the wider hooks from medium distance or his occasional 1-2. mike would make a good account of himself making louis miss with the jab a bit more than he's used to but he'd be very vulnerable to louis' 6 inch right unless his rhythm was perfect, which it only was for a couple fights of his career.
the tyson around the time he fought bonecrusher smith would keep fighting even in the clinch, working his way out of it and still landing well to the body. he still threw punches behind the jab and moved his head as he came in instead of randomly bobbing and then leaping in with the hook. that tyson we only saw for a handful of fights, so it's hard to tell how well he'd do against the likes of louis. but i think he'd hang on and give louis a good fight, losing only by a few rounds.
the green tyson that looked so flustered against tillis and the post rooney tyson gets hammered by right hands all night imo. the ref would have to step in to save a bloody bruised and grotesquely swollen mike after he gets dropped late.

Well obviously we're talking prime vs prime, so that would be Rooney's Tyson.
Joe wasn't much of an aggressor as he was a boxer. I think the way to beat Tyson is to keep the pressure on him and keep coming, like Razor Ruddock did (I always thought Razor was one of the only guys that had a good chance of beating a prime Tyson).
Tyson would pressure Joe like he'd never been pressured before, so I guess it would come down to how good Joe's defense really is, and how strong his chin is.
I think Tyson is a bad matchup for Joe so I'm going to give him the nod, not just because I'm a Tyson fan either, I just think Tyson puts way too much pressure on fighters and if they can't defend against him they end up with broken bones in their face.
Prime Joe ate a lot of over hand rights from Schmeling in their first bout.Ascended likes this.

that's the hard part about comparing prime vs prime with tyson, i don't think it consisted of more than a couple fights, and it wasn't against the better opposition he eventually faced. i'd like to have seen a pre prison tyson with rooney in his corner fighting the likes of holyfield, ruddock, douglas, and lewis.
i agree tyson's pressure would be what really keeps him in the fight, but i just don't think he could put on quite enough to do the job.

It's a toss up.

Tyson never fought anybody as good as Louis for you to assume Tyson would destroy him.

I believe Tyson would blitz Louis in the 1st or 2nd round.
Louis is easy to hit.He can't fight backing up.And his suspect chin could not stand up to Iron Mike's best shots.

Was he knocked down by Walcott?
Louis never fought anybody near as good as a prime Mike Tyson.
Louis never beat a top 15 heavyweight of all-time.Ascended likes this.
