    Bowe-Holyfield 3

Evander looked terrible here, had no legs and I think his claim of having Hep A has merit, his energy levels were zooming up and down and by the time of the stoppage he didn't necessarily look badly rattled by punches, just rubbery legs and completely exhausted.

Still, amazing to think people called for his retirement after this fight, and then he came back to beat Mike and fight on for another..lol....15 years.

Who here watching this fight or other Evander fights back in the 90's ever thought he would fight on for so long?

I think shortly after this he had some sort of heart problem also. I don't know if that contributed to his endurance problem in this fight. I thought after this fight he would not have much left.

That was after the first Moorer fight.

Oh thanks, it must have been a strain that healed. But I think it was a problem for a year. Can't quite remember.

With all the wars Holyfield was in, there was no way I thought he would and could fight for as long as he has. Holyfield is and was a warrior. I fear for his health though.

Yep, I remember everyone saying Holyfield was a 'shot' fighter 17 years ago after the Moorer defeat (which was actually a close fight).

He was diagnosed with a heart complaint and attributed this to the flat spots in the Moorer fight. But later claimed he was healed in a Christian conference.

When he lost this time to Bowe I seem to remember him saying he had flu. Granted he wasn't his normal energetic self but he fought well in spurts that night.

And no, I didn't think there was a chance that he would still be fighting 17 years later. To be fair to him, his speach isn't any worse than it was in the mid 90s and he doesn't seem quite done yet. That said I wouldn't put him in with a Klitschko or Haye, I'd fear for his health there. Botha found him very hittable!

Holyfield should have retired after the beating James Toney gave him. The fact that he is still fighting is criminal.

Evander is a born fighter. I honestly think he believes he can HW champ again. I'm just fascinated by how long the guy has been fighting. He has fought in 4 decades now. Second only to Duran I think, who fought in 5.

Jack Johnson also fought in 5 different decades, and Archie Moore in 4. In fact, Johnson may be the longest fighting man to ever hold a championship belt. 41 years in comparison to 33 for Duran.
