Being from Rhode Island I should have remembered his name as I had heard it before. For one reason or another I forgot about him till coming across his name on Sandy Saddler's record and a light bulb went off.

Can any of you guys help me out with info or film of George Araujo? I've googled him, but thats all I really know about him besides hearing his name around boxing circles when I was fighting amateur in the late 80's to mid 90's. Was he as good as his record and resume would suggest? If so he HAS to be considered the best fighter from RI, imo. And that comes from a die hard Paz fan.

George was rated in the top 10 in the Lightweight division from January 1952 to February 1955 for a total of 37 months and was rated #1 at one time.

Have you seen any of his fight Henry, and would you rate him above Pazienza and Harold Gomes as far as fighters coming from RI?

Thanks Henry. From that video Araujo had some great footwork. Must have been pretty good to be rated for that amount of time and go 58-9-1 against such names as Saddler, Joe Brown and both Paddy and Tony DeMarco.
