    RIP - Arthur Mercante

    I just got the word that Boxing Hall of Fame referee Arthur Mercante passed away. Our thoughts and prayers goes out to his family and loved ones.

          Just loved Mercante. Him and Mills lane were arguably the greatest refs of all time. If you ever get a chance, rewatch the Holmes-Norton fight. Mercante was outstanding in his commentary alongside Cosell that night. Cosell let him talk and gave him the respect he deserved. He also originated the judge giving his scores between rounds, doing so before Harold Lederman. On NBC in the early 80'sz, Mercante would break down the round by judging each minute of the round. RIP, Arthur!!!!!!!

                yes you are correct about Mercante breaking down the round into seperate minutes... i often do that when i rewatch a fight that ended by controversial decision and its amazing how your score tallys up to be the same as the judges scores... i have Arthur Mercante`s autobiography it is good reading
