Its a very good point. Personally I don't really count them when I'm judging HW's as they didn't have too many fights in the division. Probably a bit mean really.

The Tyson fight does unfortunately colour peoples opinion of Spinks a bit.
True he didn't hit as hard as Foster but then Foster's power didn't help him too much when he stepped up. Whilst Wlad doesn't seem to like it too much if the other guy hits him I don't think Spink's would KO either one but don't have to KO a fighter to win. Think he hit hard enough to keep them honest though.
Spinks chin was pretty good,he was a difficult guy ot hit cleanly too. That Tyson fight really colours opinions, but it was a hell of a good punch which caught an admitidly frightened looking Spinks cold.
Taking your Ali's and freaks like Chuvalo out of the picture maybe ask who would have survived that punch?

But one quick question: Do you think the 7 total rounds that Cooney had fought in the 5 years since the Holmes fight affected him at all against Spinks?
no i dont think it affected him.. he was extremely aggressive against Spinks and in good physical shape.. he made several attempts at a comeback in that time and the fights was always cancelled due to managerial problems, Cooney was in traing and in good shape as he showed in his fight with Eddie Gregg which was billed as `Earthquake in San Francisco`

GJC i think that is wrong to not judge a fighter at a certain weight just because he never had many fights at that weight.. what weight do you judge Pacquiao, Floyd, Ezzard Charles, Ray Robinson, Roy Jones, Arguello & Hearns.. do you count how many fights they had in each weight-class then make your decision?

Yes the Tyson fight colors peoples memory about Michael Spinks, but you must agree that that Mike Tyson was a wrecking-ball and would have beaten almost any fighter in history on that night... Yes Spinks was scared, he was scared because while in his dressing room on the night, Mike Tyson came into the arena and when going past Spinks dressing room he smashed his fist threw Spinks dressing room door and shouted, "i am gonna ******* *** you tonight".. That would have put fear into anyone especially as Tyson was at the peak of his awesome power back then.

David Haye`s performance against Ruiz is meaningless as Spinks woulda hammered Ruiz just as easily... How would Spinks do against The Klits, well i put up Gerry Cooney as an example and most are shooting him down in flames yet he KOd Norton, Lyle & Jimmy Young yes they was old but so was Lewis when Vitali nearly beat him, take away that fight and who has Vitali beat?... Wladimir has the worst record of any heavyweight champion in history, he has beaten not a single fighter who was above Class C level.. yet Michael Spinks was Class A level
you dont think moorer coulda beat spinks at lhw?

honestly, how many A class heavys have thier ever been?i would call about 12 of them A class throughout history

no i dont think Moorer could beat Spinks at 175lb

both Klits have had lots of opportunity to fight the best fighters available yet have looked elsewhere for easier opponents over the last 10yrs or more

I said it was harsh but I'm an old fart so society allows me to hold eccentric biases

Re judging fighters I pretty much try to put them into a weight class at which I feel they would thrive best in.

For example i'd never even consider SRR at LHW even though bar the heat he made a good showing against Maxim. He did however have lengthy careers at both WW and MW. As for how many fights they had at the division... not really.
For example if you put a gun to my head and asked me what one weight i'd shoehorn Fitz and Langford in i'd go for LHW and MW respectively.

It's the one advantage of being old, you get humoured more

Spinks has little resume at HW and you're grossly overrating him.. You're also overrating Cooney who was washed up, drinking heavily and disinterested at the time.. If you watch that fight, Cooney only throws about 2 right hands in 5 rounds. Ok, the KO is quite impressive, but Spinks has to hit him full on the button about 7 or 8 times flush in succession to get him out of there, which shows he wasn't a powerful heavyweight hitter.. Against either Klit, who are both bigger than Cooney, he'd be competing against good left jabs and hard rights and cannot be compared to a shot and inactive Cooney..

I see Tyson put a hole in his dressing room door b4 they fought.. If i was Spinks, i'd have classed that as a diabolical liberty, and came out fired up, not shrivel up into a ball and get KO'd in 49 seconds lol.. That's why somebody like Haye, who you also grossly under estimate, would stand a good chance of beating Spinks.. I mean lets face it, you even betted at least 55,000 points on Ruiz beating him, which is a prime example that your ratings need an urgent re-assessment..

These points are as much use as a pkt of smarties.. i bet Ruiz because i rate Haye so low not because i rate Ruiz so high... to be honest i was quite impressed by Haye yet at the same time disappointed in how bad Ruiz was, if Ruiz carries on boxing he needs to shave his head because his grey hair is embarrassing to him and his opponent..

it was the boxing ability which Spinks showed against Cooney which was impressive, 7 & 8 punch salvo`s with brilliant speed and accuracy.. i have got to disagree with you in that the Klits are bigger than Cooney... Wlad is 6ft 6in & Vitali is 6ft 7in so Cooney matches up to both in size
