    Similiar styles

How similar was Gene Tunney's style compared to Ali, and what are some other fighters who's styles were very much the same?

Gene Tunney's style was similar to Ali's in that he was a mobile on his toes type of boxer who used the ring well, had an excellent left jab, fast combinations, held his hands low too........and had a granite chin!

      A terrific scientific boxer!

I wish I could see more of Tunney. But from what I've seen he had the movement and the sharp left jab. That's where I see the similarities. I've also seen Ali praise Tunney's style in interviews.

Tunney was usually the aggressor as a light heavy and went to the body often but against Dempsey he was fighting much like Ali would, using a lot of movement.

Having seen some film of Lloyd Marshall and Tony Canzoneri recently, the two remind me of each other somewhat. Both were very unorthodox, "aggressive" counter-punchers.

Old Marshall display some of his tricks:

I would say most similar to Louis in style would be Alexis Arguello.

Marciano and Basilio fought very similar in my opinion.

Yeah, good point, i thought that too.

Very crisp, powerful punchers with tight offensive technique and finishing power, but slow feet and often struggled with a good mover.

James Toney has a great deal of similarities to Jersey Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles, plus lots of other black guys from that time who used similar techniques

                    Floyd too
