Ruiz has gone on to be a 2 time Heavyweight Champion fighting in 11 world title fights and remaining virtually undefeated in the last 10yrs Ruiz will become a 3 time world champion on April 3rd should he defeat David Haye.
Yeah, the fact that Ruiz got 78 WBA title shots after Lennox fought Grant proves that Lennox cherry picked

Who cares who had the better resume at the time, right? Who cares who was rated higher, right? Who cares what fight HBO and the public wanted to see? What really matters is that Lennox had magical powers and was therefore able to see the future, and the sight of Ruiz hugging his way to defeat against Z-level paper champions scared him so badly that he instead chose to fight a bigger, stronger, more talented boxer with a better resume. What a cowardly ducker!

So Lewis had the ability to see into the future and avoided Ruiz because of what he would go on to accomplish?

Ha ha, just wanted to reply again, in particular to this part.

11 world title fights? Great, except that he lost 6 of them.

Virtually undefeated for the past 10 years? Right, apart from the 6 defeats, 2 of them to blown up middleweights.

I remember there was a poll on here before where Ruiz was voted the worst heavyweight champion of all time, which is really saying something.

I've heard it all now, Lennox Lewis ducked Ruiz, the guy who has been beaten by 2 Middleweights.

yes 11 world title fights, losing 3 split-decisions over in Germany to hometown fighters, one no-contest to James Toney who was on steroids and a decision loss to Holyfield after puttting Holyfield on the floor, something Lewis never came near to doing in 24rds, also a decision loss to undefeated Roy Jones jr. who was considered at that time to be the greatest fighter of the last half-century..Forget your poll of who was the worst heavyweight champion of all time because Hasim Rahman will always win that poll..Ruiz was the No1 contender and because Lewis refused to fight him he was `stripped` of that title.. Michael Grants claim to fame is the hype that Lennox Lewis himself paid to Grant in the build-up to choosing Grant for a shot at his remaining 2 belts, HBO are not the world governing body of professional boxing and never have been they offered Lewis a staggering $35 million to fight newly crowned champion Roy Jones yet Lewis turned it down claiming he had nothing to prove by fighting a former middleweight.. Lewis had a responsibility to boxing and to boxing fans to fight the top contenders, John Ruiz had been No1 contender for more than 18 months yet Lewis knew just how dangerous a fighter he was so wanted nothing to do with him so instead chose Grant after watching Grant being floored twice in the opening round against Golota and being saved by the bell.. real boxing fans did not want to see Lewis vs Grant as they knew that it was a complete `miss-match`which it rightly turned out to be, yet Lewis pulled the wool over peoples eyes by slandering John Ruiz and calling him `Johnny Louise`.. i for one did not buy into it, i knew Lewis was running scared and abrogating his responsibility as champion to fighting the top contenders.

Ruiz was undefeated in 11 fights over 4yrs and had only lost due to being caught cold with the very first punch of a fight and being counted out in 18 seconds which itself tells a story. Ruiz was on a roll and at the very top of his game, Lewis never ever in his career fought any fighters who was in that position of being at the top of their game... he only ever fought fighters who was on the downslide of their career or who was years past their best days.. Lewis had used Ruiz as a sparring partner in London in 94 so knew all about how good Ruiz was even when only a novice, yet 4yrs later when he had fought his way to be No1 contender Lewis **** himself and dumped the belt... its ok for Lewis fans to claim Bowe dumped his belt because he was scared of Lewis but its not ok to claim Lewis was scared of Ruiz for dumping his belt.... Ruiz is to fight David Haye this weekend for the Title, should Ruiz win it will make Lennox Lewis actions look even more sinister.

                  What a little cry baby.

It was only till now I bothered actually looking at my profile and saw this.

This is one of the fundamental things wrong with this site, ordinary users able to leave bad rep for each other.
You disagree with someone's opinion, however ridiculous it may seem and you can get punished for it.

Anyway this thread still makes me laugh.

nah i think lennox lewis kind of cherry picked michael grant as his oponent instead of waiting for grant to improve for a few years instead lewis went for the bank and pvv money with the grant fight and ended grants hope of becoming a top heavyweight boxer

                      Lol.

Earlier someone said Lewis avoided Ruiz because Ruiz was going to go on to be successful. Now Lewis fought Grant because Grant was going to go on to be successful?

Lennox should start buying lottery tickets, his fortune telling powers are phenomenal. If only he'd used them before the McCall and Rahman fights, eh?
