  • David Tua vs Heavyweight Greats?

who can he beat , who he can't?

  • #2
Maybe Patterson and Leon Spinks if anyone considers them great. Perhaps as few non-great-but-champs of the from pre-1960 when they weighed less than 185.

I think he has a reasonable shot at Tyson.

I don't think Tua is an ATG and I don't think he could beat any ATG heavyweights.

Not that Joe frazier is a heavyweight great, but he's usually regarded very highly.frazier has a weak chin and never demonstrated an ability to take a punch from a real puncher,Tua would knock him out very early.

Joe Louis is an all time great due to the weak era of which he fought.Unlike the average Joe Louis opponent,Tua does fight with a pulse, and is dangerous at any point in a fight,he would definately crack the weak chin of Louis.

floyd Patterson is regarded as having a glass jaw,but he was a terrific boxer aswell as a fighter with great speed and power.Tua has the power to knock Patterson out,but Patterson has more than enough to put Tua into his shell and pick up a wide decision.

Tua would have a punchers chance against any HW in history..
The fact that he's only been given one title shot in the last 16 years speaks volumes..
I don't for one minute, think Tua is an ATG, but I can name at least 20 ex-champs (mostly from Tua's era) that he would stand at least a 50/50 chance of beating..

            Shannon Briggs
            Sergey Lyakhovich
            Sultan Ibragimov
            Ruslan Chagaev
            Nicolai Valuev
            Corrie Sanders
            Lamon Brewster
            Oleg Maskaev
            John Ruiz
            Francisco Damiani
            Oliver McCall
            Gerry Coetzee
            Frank Bruno
            Trevor Berbick
            Greg Page
            Pinklon Thomas
            Bruce Seldon
            Tony Tubbs
            Hasim Rahman
            Old Foreman
            Old Holmes
            Old Holyfield
            Old Tyson

Tua has had 2 World Title shots not one.. he lost them both by a landslide,.. Tua has no chance against any of the fighters who are listed above, i would favour them all to beat Tua who`s claim to fame is "cold-****ing" a young John Ruiz with the first punch of the fights 15yrs ago and knocking out an old Michael Moorer, Tua managed a win and a draw with Hasim Rahman who i rate as "The Worst Heavyweight champion in history" yet Tua was fortunate and had to climb off the floor to get his draw... guys like Tubbs, Briggs, Thomas, Page & Lyakhovich would have no trouble winning a wide points decision over Tua while Old Foreman, Old Holyfield, Old Tyson, McCall, Brewster, Bruno, Sanders, Berbick would all bounce the over-weight Tua.... other than his blow-out of a novice John Ruiz, Tua has done nothing to suggest he could defeat those fighters and to claim he could is exageration

against everyone except ali , foreman , valuev , vitali klitschko , wladimir klitschko , lennox lewis i consider tua a favorite.
maybe with byrd , tyson and mccall it is about 50/50.
and if frazier knocked ali down , imagine what would have happened if tua landed on him. ali , holmes and lyle said shavers hit them the hardest.
just imagine someone with better power , technique and chin instead of him.
it is only his lack of height and reach that ever troubled him from reaching even further achievements.

What two world title attempts were they?
I only know of one, vs Lennox Lewis.. The two fights with Rahman were for the USBA title and an IBF eliminator.. Chris Byrd was also for the USBA, and Ibeabuchi was for the WBC international belt, so who did he fight for a world title the 2nd time, and what colour shorts was he wearing?

you are correct.. it was an IBF final eliminator against Byrd which Tua was easily beaten so he never managed to secure a 2nd title fight...Looking at the pro record of David Tua i find it quite amazing how this guy can be so overated with quite a few members on this forum even making claims that Tua would KO Muhammad Ali & Joe Frazier... claims which i find quite bazaar and beyond comprehension.
