Absolutely. And to borrow a bit from ***** in the following post.

Great conditioning, good power, a great chin and the will to win go a long way.

When two men are fighting, what you're watching is more a contest of wills than of skills, with the stronger will usually overcoming the skill. The skill will prevail only when it is so superior to the other man's skill that the will is not tested.

it would have to be someone who never won a title but fought champions and did fairly well,it would have to be a journey man

Julio Cesar Chavez...not a big ****er, didn't have great handspeed, but he would run through a brick wall to get to you. Same with Ricky Hatton.

i don't know, i wouldn't say jcc had mediocre talent. he definately wasn't slick or fast, but he's one of those guys who had bad intentions with every punch. that killer instinct is a talent of its own imo. he knew how to get inside better than most too.

JCC was just as skilled as Marvin Hagler. In fact, more skilled I'd say.

Learned skill is different from god given talent, though. I agree that he had a killer instinct and that he wanted to grind you into the ground, but other than that, what was he spectacular at? He had nowhere near the athletic ability of, say, Roy Jones or Manny Pacquiao.

That said, mediocre is a bit too far. He just wasn't an exceptional talent.

i consider learned skills things like tyson's head movement or floyd's shoulder roll. jones' elusiveness was just as god given as jccs killer instinct. he'd lean away from punches like ali did. he wasn't supposed to, but he was fast enough to get away with it.

You are probably talking about his son, do yourself a favor and see some Chavez fights. Don't rate cause the end of his career

I don't think fighters with power and chin necessarily had no talent. I'd like to hear more of those fighters who didn't have great talent, didn't have a great chin and couldn't hit. Basically got by with cleverness and conditioning.
