Totally agree about Frazier being a true tough guy!

I've never read that Frazier went into a coma though for a week, is that true? I'm suprised he was licensed again if that is true, although its not exactly a blood clot.

As for the most punches thrown in any fight in boxing history. I wasn't aware that Ali Frazier 1 had that accolade, surely the lower weight divisions had fights with higher punch counts.

I thought the Thriller in Manilla had more.......but I guess that had one fewer round. I seem to remember Tua vs Ibeabuchi had quite a high punch count over 12 rounds.

Foreman Stewart.. Can't believe that went the distance.. Foreman's head was nearly twice it's normal size, but the fight wasn't stopped, and he managed to grind out a DC..

Iran Barkley vs Tommy Hearns, some of those body shots Hearns was landing were sickening.

Smokin Joe Frazier was a true ATG and real tough-guy.
actually tua-ibeabuchi broke the heavyweight record. which is impressive since it was 3 rounds shorter than fotc.

frazier truly did have a lion's heart. i think fotc took his chin from him. maybe foreman always would've killed him, but after '71 he never had a chance.

Yea, I thought Tua vs Ibeabuchi had grabbed that honour, but I wasn't too confident.

Oh and thanks Sonnyboyx. Funnily enough I own that book and read it about seven or eight years ago. Kram clearly didn't like Ali much! I didn't remember it saying about Frazier being in a coma, but hell it was a few years ago. I may well give it another whirl.

yeah it may not be as significant as frazier-ali but that fight was a true display of balls. neither guy is exactly pernell whitaker either. both landed bombs all night.

The first fight that comes to mind is Castro/Jackson I. Castro was cut, swollen, bleeding and tired...then Jackson hurt him badly with a straight left hand. When it looks like there's nothing left for Castro to do but fall over, he lands a monstrous left hook and flattens Jackson. Jackson managed to get up a couple of times after that but was effectively done from the single left hand. Crazy.

Last November, Z Gorres won a decision over Luis Melendez and then collapsed after the fight was over. There was a blood clot in his brain.

He was in critical condition, but now he's doing better. According to news reports, should be able to fully recover and live a normal life again.
