Kim had notified his corner to not stop the fight at no condition. He had a small casket in his hotel and seem to predict either win or death. It was a morbid case in the history of the sport. I personally think the fight could have stopped in RD13 but Kim kept throwing punches and Refs usually won't stop when a fighter is firing back. I am sure if the fight is stopped in RD13 and kim lives than people would say it was premature stoppage. As we know Kim died, his mom committed suicide, and even the Ref comitted sucicide. Hindsight is only 20-20 but looking at the amount of punishment i wish his corner would have thrown the towel against his own wishes.
It is easy to say yes with the benefit of hindsight. At the time the referee gave the warrior the opportunity to continue. If the ref asked Kim is he wanted to continue, Kim would have said yes. Fighters know the risks every time they enter the ring, just as racecar drivers know the dangers each lap they speed around the track. I voted yes in this poll because I knew, I knew what happened already. But nobody on that night imagined how it would unfold til it happened.
I was watching this fight the other day, as Mancini is one of my favorite fighters, and I watched Mancini whale away on Kim, and I couldn't help but beg as to why he wouldn't stop it during a 30 second onslaught of unanswered clean landing punches.
Then we have refs who stop Taylor with 5 seconds to go while he's winning a fight.
No. Kim was practically fighting back or bobbing and weaving to avoid punches the entire time. I don't think its fair to judge a fight in hindsight. A sad ending, but no way the refs fault. As has already been pointed out, fighters know the risks when the enter the ring.
