  • If you could change the rules of the game...

    what would you do?

Me personally, I'd change the scoring to reward the fighter who comes forward more and initiates exchanges. Also, I'd always keep the ring under 20 feet.

David Haye would not be champion under your rules..

i would bring back 15rd title fights

Top 10 ranked contenders must fight eachother

World title fights over 15 rounds again? Count me in on that one! We could still have national and regional title bouts over 12 rounds, but fights for a world title ought to be special... so yes, that would be a good idea.

Another thing I would like to see changed, is the influence a knockdown has on the scoring of a round. Take for instance a very closely fought round between A and B, where A just nicks it: 10-9 A.

Same round, but now A scores a knockdown 10 seconds from the bell: 10-8 A.

Same round, only now it's B who scores a late knockdown: 10-8 B.

That's how rounds are scored today, so in this particular round the knockdown is worth 3 points to B... but only 1 for A! Doesn't make sense to me!

          13 rounds.
          NO OPEN SCORECARDS EVER.
          Fewer divisions.
More of an emphasis on who is landing the cleaner punches rather than mindless aggression, although I guess this depends on individual judges.

get judges who know how to score a fight...
            Get penalised for excessive clinching.
DEFINITELY AGAINST 15 ROUND fights.. more damage gets done to boxers, and hate long fights...

I think i'd be looking to go backwards really. Less weights 15 rounders and one champion.
On new innovations maybe look at another 30 seconds or so between rounds might improve things? Give fighters more chance to rehydrate, rest get cuts dealt with. Just an idea that might be worth trying which miht improve things without fundamentally changing fights.
