They should just go to 13 rounds anyway. Draw or not, 13 rounds would help prevent cheap draws. Can't be even in a 13 round fight unless the losing fighter scores a KD.

Combing the internet with no luck for an article I read a couple of years ago (I think in the wake of Lewis-Holyfield I) that, hard to believe as it may sound, statistically speaking there hasn't been an increase in average number of draws in boxing since the inception of 12 round championship fight compared to any other given period of 15 round fights. In fact, there has been a slight decline.

They could even add an anonymous 4th judge. Who's name they would announce if there was a draw. I think Championship fights should go 15. The technological advances in training nowadays has increased the level of fitness of the current fighters. Great Topic.

Why not in case of a championship fight scored as a draw the fighters are forced to fight three additional rounds? That way, in essence, the fight could go as long as 15 rounds and give each fighter time to come up with a different strategy than just going all out in the 13th round. Also, wasn't there such a rule for the British Commonwealth title in the 70's and 80's? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

We got as far as narrowing it down to British & Commonwealth title fights, which at one time, could be decided by the ref.. Bugner Cooper was a perfect example of this..
I don't believe any BC title fights have ever ended in a draw, but I will check..
Maybe regional titles in the US were at one time decided like this to, but I wouldn't have any knowledge on it.. Does anyone know?
