    History Repeating Itself ?

Joe Calzaghe retired undefeated after years of ducking then beating RJJ and B-Hop who were both past their prime and could've fought him much earlier. Rocky Marciano retired undefeated after denying Ezzard Charles and Archie Moore a shot at the title then defeating them when they were both literally old and gray. The two old timers still managed to put Marciano's ass flat on the canvas though, doesn't this sound familiar?

Thing is, Rocky didnt start his career when Ezzy and Archie were in their primes, he started at an old age himself (for boxers anyway). He didnt deny Charles a fight, he fought him after he won the title, twice in fact. He took the fight with Moore after Moore talked sum junk, its not like Moore was horrible at that point anyway.

But I agree that Calzoney should of fought RJJ and Behops much sooner.

During that period when many of the talented black fighters were just fighting each other but never for the belt and Charles and Moore couldn't get title fights, if things were different and these guys had won the title I don't see Marciano beating them as the challenger coming in against them as champions still a the top of their game. The fact that Moore still had so much to offer the sport at the time he fought Marciano, says a lot about how great he was.

What you on about? Joe was 35 with 2 broken hands..
Before he fought Hopkins, and it was generally regarded that Calzaghe was on the slide while Hopkins who'd just schooled Tarver, was peaking late & was considered by all you Yankee boys, a freak of nature who was gonna beast Calzaghe.. Well you were wrong wern't you? Just as you are now, because Marciano wasn't calling out Charles & Walcott when he was 23 was he?

You´re an absolute ****head. You just can´t handle the fact that Marciano destroyed every black fighter he ever faced. And you can´t use the old `He beeeez ducked all dem black fighters of hiz era nahmean` like you do with Dempsey.

marciano had a very respectable resume when you look back at it..and that ko over walcott was sick, just straight up nasty,,expecially considering his nose was split open..the rock was tough as nails...and joe..well 21 title defenses is 21 title defenses..you cant judge his career on b-hop and roy..hell it aint like joe was young..he was 37 himself

I don't know about that. I think most people were favouring Joe to outwork Hopkins considering Calzaghe's performance against Kessler and Hopkins's against Winky Wright.

Marciano gave title shots to Charles and Moore when he should have. He could have probably fought Archie Moore earlier but Marciano's manager wanted the fight to be built up into a superfight.
