  • Does anyone find boxing history interesting?

Boxing has been around for centuries, although fighting has been around since the beginning of time. I find it most interesting to turn back the pages of time to see the development of the sport. I find historic pictures from the early 16th or 17th century quite interesting. And i'm hella into bareknuckle boxing. I dunno, it just keeps me motivated to train and fight.

boxing in the old days was a joke,i look and some of the picture stills and at some of the shabby reel clips and boxers from the old days would not last one round in todays game

Maybe, but what do you consider the 'old days'? Also, even if what you say is true, does it matter? You judge fighters by their era. If they were great in their era and beat lots of excellent champs they would have been just as good in any era and beaten many more champs because of the way things now run.

      You need that perspective.

Some are some arn't, that said I don't think mrboxer has any interest in any fighter who fought before 2007 to be honest.

I think old fighters way back when couldn't fight and didn't know how to slip punches and put punches together like they do now.

I would love to see some of these fighters go 15 rounds with fighters like lamotta who would be in there face for 15 rounds

Same day weigh-ins would result in a catastrophic change in today's fighters. Boxing had to be practically a lifestyle choice back then.

Fads pop up from time to time, and I know a lot of people who like to emulate a kind of hipster, rockabilly, Vargas pin up or James Dean-esque "scene". I always think there's a possibility that boxing might become an aspect of it. Never does. My parents told me that on their "first date" they listened to the 1st Liston-Patterson fight on the radio. At 35 years old, I can't even fathom such a thing. That boxing was so intertwined in people's lives that you could listen to a big fight on the radio. Or that two teenagers would feel compelled to listen to it on their first date. Instead boxing's dwindling fan base only gets filled with more and more meathead MMA types, which is a drag.

I do. I love watching old footage. The older the better. It's great to read about guys like Johnson, Louis, Robinson, Pep and all those other greats. But to actually see them on film. you can't beat that.
