  • 45th Anniversary of Roberto Duran's Epic Demolition of Sugar Ray in Montreal

    - - Ray returning to his 1976 Gold Medal Winning Town of Montreal for his new coronation.

Alas, after being bullied in the Montreal Pressers, Ray got whooped Pillar to Post as Duran ascended to Legendary Heights...the way it wuz then and now and forever more until the end of time.

Where was U mugs? I was debating with guys on my construction crews where most were picking Ray because he was the popular choice. Duran was already a legend at 71-1 with the single loss avenged twice via 2 KOs, so he was the easy choice for me, but it's amazing how many got riled up over this fight. It was that HUGE!!!

It was not a demolition, it was a very close bout and undoubtedly Duran"s finest hour.

It was such a shame he utterly disgraced himself in the next fight.

Quite the metaphor for queeny and how he refuses to debate with me saying "No Mas!" when I have him bedazzled in our debates.
He brings shame to panama (I Mean Texas!)

        - - Ray said for most of the fight he was fighting in the clouds after Duran nailed him early on with a left hook.

Close on the cards because Ray was The Golden One.

Not only beat up, but humiliated prefight so bad he told his mgr to announce his retirement.

Yup, the way it was then and now and forever will be...

I’d call this one of the greatest WW title victories in boxing history. It’s unfortunate the promoters and managers around him pushed the rematch so quickly knowing he was partying and packing on weight.

A great fight is normally a close one or one involving a great comeback as in Hearns/Leonard 1. I say it was a close fight..
