Benny Leonard's comeback must of been sad to watch. I have no firsthand account, just conjecture. The Sports writers seemed to have treated him respect.
He won a bunch of fights but lost the only real challenge, only real tough fight, he was in. Got bullied by McLaren.
But I'm glad he got to make some money. 1931 was tough year in America. So many went broke in the '29 crash.
You can just see how some wildcat bank speculators would pick out boxers to expolit with bad margin buys. Dempsey got scamed too.
But aa W.C. Fields says "You can't cheat an honest man." Everyone thought they could be the system.
We usually feel bad for people who lost everything in 1929, but it was all driven by greed. Something for nothing, greed.
