Neither have the longevity nor resume to crack the top 20 with so few fights in my opinion. Guys like Ray Leonard or Jim Jeffries who's careers were also relatively sort given their respective ranking fought far better competition, legends. I like both Bivol and Beterbiev, but they need to do a lot more work to reach all time greatness. With the current crop I just don't see it. Using ESPN's top 10 the top 10 lightheavyweights have a combined 190 fights. An average of 19 fight per man. How can ANY fighter show attrition and perseverance with such limited experience to fight against?
Beterbiev vs Bivol~Where will they rank in Historical top 20 LH lists?

Y weight divisions at all? Boxing started as an open class.
No, I didn't say Beter beats Rocky, but he fought at heavy in the Olympics and is tremendously compromised making 175 for being near 40 years old. His natural weight would be Cruiser, but he wanted to dominate the LHs and did so.
Doubt the Bivol rematch happens as he is endangering his health at this point, but if Canelo is interested, that's 5x what he'd get for the Bivol rematch.Comment

You're none to bright. When he says they weigh in more today because they can, he's referring to day before weigh ins. Bob Foster weighed 188lbs for Frazier. 3 months later he was 175lbs for a LightHeavyweight defense. Fighters trained down to their lowest weights, for speed, stamina, punching resistance etc. Same as today. The only difference is day before weigh ins. That's the thing with you, you never put both fighter on an even playing field. You said there are weight classes for a reason. That was true. What's also true is 175 is 175. The only difference is a day longer to eat and rehydrate.Comment

Because of same day weigh ins. Do you truly believe him or any other fighter that weighed in on the same day were allowed to way in the day before they wouldn't be heavier? Use your brain for once to think about something besides where you can get your next drink.Comment

Beter has a history of beating bigger fighters, ie heavyweights in Sheriff Bob's day that he almost always lost to.Comment

More hyperbole, eh?Comment

Recently Canelo's 168lb title fight vs undefeated Edgar Berlanga who weighed over 190 by the first bell. Canelo probably weighed 185 which is his street weight that he maintains by a life long interest in staying in shape.
Always interesting to see how IQ challenged people like U stumble though life...even Dan the Boof got smarter, but not U...Comment

Neither one could get on my ATG list right now--too few fights against too little competition. I have seen too many comets burst in midair to think I know either of them belong there right now.
If at least half their fights already had been against stellar opposition, they might make it to a legitimate list by their careers' end. But their careers are almost over. The only topnotch fighter on either resume until last weekend was Canelo, if you consider the two reds topnotch--which, I will give them that, at least for their weakish era.
A fighter simply must stand on the shoulders of giants to be an ATG or defend the title successfully and with domination for a long time.
Two guys the other night did not defend their titles with domination. But when 2 fighters are truly evenly matched that is what you can usually expect.Comment

- - Most light heavies making 174 are in the one 180+
