A little trivia about boxing and film

Entrepreneur William Fox got his start from the Corbett-Fitzsimmons fight.

    From ChatGPT

    William Fox:

"William Fox was a film pioneer and the founder of Fox Film Corporation. He is credited with being one of the first to capitalize on the opportunity presented by the Corbett-Fitzsimmons fight.

In anticipation of the fight, he sold tickets in advance to audiences, promising that he would use the proceeds to purchase a film projector. This allowed him to show the fight highlights shortly after the match."

I know, from seeing an 1897 newspaper advertisement, that Fox, was at the time, making this move in Chicago. Where else he employed it I can't confirm.

Ah, I absolutely love how boxing and film intersect, bringing out such raw, dramatic storytelling! It remids us that in the ring of life, it’s not about how hard you hit, but about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. What's your favorite boxing film and why?

          - - The first filmed full length feature attempt of Bobby Fitz against heavy champ Peter Maher on a spit island in the middle of the US below the town of Langtry.

Thomas Edison sent his two top guys work the recorder as well as financing the epic purse that brought the fight together.

Alas, the film has never been seen, perhaps because the fight was a 10 sec KO win by the murderous Fitz in twilight conditions.
