Wow it has really been that long huh. I was only 13 when that fight happened. And I can say that no matter how many times I watched it, there is still a sense anxiety when I watch it to this day. I just think it's a special fight. It's so intense both the fight and the discussions about it, just look at how much emotion it still brings out of people.Comment

NO, Vitali was 31 years old, Cowboy. His age vs Lewis. Being down 4-2 all three cards means Lewis who was tired would have to win 4 of the next 6 rounds on two cards to get a draw.
You're correct one thing though, I am wasting my time trying to convince your biased self with facts.Comment

The facts Cowboy, are Vitali was far for his best and lacked the experience when he took the fight on less that 2 weeks notice. Hence he was pre-prime. Those are the facts. You can hold your breath until the cows come home.
He out landed Lewis, and was up 4-2 on all three cards. We all saw how much energy he had left when he learned the fight was stopped on a cut that was not bleeding. Lewis was dead tired and likely would have been TKO'd had the match continued. Now, if you will excuse me I have work to do this AM, and a big match is coming up soon that has my attention.
Lewis likely would have been stopped? You could say that. I can counter with Lewis still would have stopped Vits and caused permanent career ending injury had they gone on. Neither can be proven. The FACT remains, Lewis won, and did so at age 37, past his best and at a career hight in weight. That's not me guessing, that is me telling you 100% facts, cowboy.Comment

How is it proven the cut was solely caused by punches?
Lewis was down 4-2, gassed, and said he would give the re-match. Did he?
And no, to the ignominy of Lewie fans, Lewie went back on his word after making Vit do handstands and jump hoops medically, all because Lewie Mommy see Vit, she say U not fighting that guy. U retiring now to support me in comfort...The end...R.I.P. Lewie. Alas we knew U not...Comment

- - The first cut that turned out to be the major one once Lewie targeted it was caused by the infamous loose tape that trainers are notorious for. HBO went through all the fight footage to show it, a missed Lewie right hand replete with flashing, slashing loose tape.

Lewis owed Vits nothing, just like Vits owed the crowd nothing in the Byrd fight when he promised to get his belt back. Only difference is Lewis won and retired, he didn't stay around for years being rated next to the guy who beat him.Comment

I look at this as if psychologically they both had the same problem. Vits did say he had been training for Lewis for the past year, so he was anticipating the fight anyway. He certainly stepped up to the occasion. As I already posted, I believe this was his best showing, even in defeat. Certainly no shame in losing to a fighter like Lewis.Comment
