The current panel is a joke. Some of the guys voting were past members of this forum and were trolls.

it's important to acknowledge, as others have pointed out above, that all boxing rankings are more art than science, and are partially subjective.
This applies to rating a largely unproven fighter against a fighter whose skills AND limitations have been proven out.
As an example; with US Heavyweights like Wilder, Miller and Martin seeming now in the twilight of their careers, there is an unspoken push to install hot commodity Jared Anderson is the Next Great American.
That's very natural, but does it really, combined with a hard earned win over a Charles Martin, entitle him to a top 10 placement? Or, are the ranking panels who place him there factoring in expected performances that haven't happened yet?
Looking at some of those prospects that the Ring selected to include in their top 10, this phenomenon of premature vetting is a repeating occurrence, and a number of those "pushed" Heavyweights in reality, never panned out to get within pissing distance of being one of the world's 10 best.
Thank you for the compliment my friend.
They said Frank Bruno didn't deserve his ranking back then and he wouldn't have made it in the tougher competition of the USA.
But what promoters love is a charismatic and witty guy like Conor McGregor or Fury who everyone desperately wants to see as the hype has gone into overdrive.
I asked them apples why western boxers always dominate pro boxing and yet at amateur level it is largely eastern europeans.
Leon Spinks only had 7 pro fights before he fought Ali for the title.

I reckon that like horse racing the prospects are often touted as great in the making because of the stable they are in and not always based solely on their talents. Unlike football where all the teams play each other each season in boxing it is like a hustlers business where, like acting it's more who you know then what you know. It is also one of the only sports where two consecutive losses can end your whole career. Football players can have a bad season but if they get better next season all is forgiven. In boxing they are finished. It really is a tough guys game.Last edited by max baer; 02-12-2024, 08:42 PM.Willow The Wisp likes this.

Makes no $ense, but really, these guys ain't the brightest. They have the most exciting sport in the world that if run properly would be the top $$$ dog instead of the milkbones most fighters make.
