  • Question for the bros.

why do Europeans fighters retire and never try a comeback. American fighters are still at it in their 40's and retire broke. Explain this to me please. I thought Europe has high taxes.

    ???? Here are some maybe(s)

NOT GOING BROKE: Stronger extended family structure and better advice.

NOT GOING BROKE: Less consumer oriented culture; lower expectations once wealthy.

NO COMEBACK: A socialized system that protects against poverty (the oft maligned 'nanny state') and broke fighters don't become destitute as quickly or often.

NO COMEBACK: Less media exposure, less professional connections, less opportunity for comebacks, once broke.

P.S. Ah phuck! --- I'll just go ahead and say it. --- A better education and disciplined childhood.

Maybe there are laws that protect fighters there. There is none here in the U.S. A contract here means nothing. We all saw the **** Con King and Arum got away with.

Tbh I haven’t seen a statistic backing up your claim, but it may be plausible for sure even though plenty of euro fighters continue well past their best. Again without statistical proof, I’d guess that both eastern euro fighters and maybe also uk fighters fight on way too long.

An example ( that in itself doesn’t prove anything) is Firat Arslan. Former world champion. Is today 53 years old and he has fought this year. Known for top fitness but he has also taken a lot of punches over the years.

Some guys attempt comebacks but they never work out well........ like Ricky Hatton for example.

Only in America can fighters get in the ring with brain damage. If one state says no, another will say yes. Froch, Calzaghe, Lewis, the K brothers all retired for good and money in their pocket. Holyfield, Toney, Jones, Tyson fought in their 40's and have little to no money. I still don't know why.

              Who?

Because George Foreman could and Primo Carnera could not.

                - - Roy made and retained good $$$ in his day to this day. You could only wish. Mike recovered from multi bankruptcies just fine now that he's older and wiser with age.

George came back after 10 years and nicked a fortune in $$$ and popular culture. Vit took 4 yrs off and did the same.

Lewie had such good $$$ in the bank that retired 5 prematurely to the derision of boxing fans everywhere.

Poor Field/Toney. Who wins today? Could be next on youtube...

Lewis retired prematurely at 38? Lennox got no derision in the UK for retiring,on the contrary he was congratulated for his good sense.and knowing when to quit.

                    - - Doubt Canadians even want to claim Lewie now. Certainly not Mexicans, Aussies general Latinos, Ethiopians, ect.

Hung on the the WBClike a dingleberry until they threated to strip for not rematching the Huge $$$ fight with Vit.
