    Boxing Cliches

What is a boxing cliche? I don't exactly know. Cliches in movies or music are obvious to me. Blues music is highly cliched in its musical form--I, IV, I, V , IV, I, V. Movies are obvious too. What about the character all viewers already suspect is evil after he spends the night with a new, unsuspecting woman? What is he almost invariably doing when she comes down in the morning? Of course, standing there with an apron cooking breakfast while entertaining her kids.

I will venture a guess on a boxing cliche, these from announcers. "He was hurt by that one!" "That one rocked him!" Etc, etc, etc.

I doubt seriously doubt Larry Merchant or Jim Lampley has ever been punched. I tend to trust it a lot more if George Foreman says it. And what is the difference supposed to be between hurt and rocked et al anyway, the other terms for it? No one except the fighter knows if a punch that staggered him also hurt.

I find this post as enigmatic as your signature.

Not sure if you want want a reply; certain I don't have one.

Anyway, my favorite boxing cliché (which was noted by another poster) is how all cut-men are legendary.

I agree about the legendary cut-men. Good one. I always love replies.

As for my signature, it is really not a mystery. It is from a novel I am writing, and is all I have so far.

        Do you like it?

P.S. Free Advice: I like novels that kill off the protagonist in the first chapter. Easy to read. Give it a think.

If Scarlett had been hit by a run-a-way cotton wagon in the first chapter we all would have been spared 1200 pages of bad Civil War history.

It's about hitting and not being hit back. ... except when a hit me I hit you back harder type wins

                close fight = robbery

                I disagree = YDKSAB

Folks claiming they understand things like count time, illegal punches, clinching, etc. are by the ref's discretion but cry about how the ref was wrong when the call didn't go their way.

Same for people understanding the points system while crying the judges got it wrong.

These rating that don't mean anything in terms of career growth and mandatories and such are actually meaningful and these other ratings that do effect a career and have mandatories are meaningless because I disagree with the people in the ratings.

I already have the theme. I only lack a plot.
