What was Mike Tyson boxing style ?

Most label him as a swarmer but according to statistics he threw less punches than most heavyweights of his time. Was he actually a slugger ?
    or a boxer/puncher ?

As usual we have to separate the earlier version of Tyson from the post-Kevin Rooney one, which I never consider in instances like this.

The technically advanced version of Tyson could throw any punch in the book more or less perfectly, and had a very effective defense. Basically, he was a complete fighter gifted with awesome power, speed and precision.

As soon as Don King entered the picture, everything went into the toilet...

He would lure them in, take advantage and as they resisted, he would force his will upon them by force. Oh wait..that was his dating style. Sorry.

His boxing style I would say is closer to swarmer. He never took a step back, in fact he could only fight in one direction. His lack of activity is due to the flaws of his system.

            - - Mike Tyson, Roy Jones, and Wlad were unique in being well ahead on points in most every fight. Vit was well ahead in every fight, even the two his lost.

I've always said Tyson was not a busy fighter. He was for the first 2 or 3 rounds. After that not so much. Tyson threw 412 punches vs Tucker over 12 rounds. Bowe threw 711 vs Holyfield 1. If he had the heart of Marciano, He could have been champ for a long time. He had a bob and weave style something like Dempsey.
