  • h2h Alexis Arguello at 126-130

I Never realized how rough this guys career was, he's very underrated. In roughly 2 years he went from 126-140 in with Aaron Pryor. And put on a damn good performance against a fighter whos advantage "appeared" to be from drugs (it was Pryors crack head chin and stamina that really won him this fight).

Aaron Pryor was a hell of a talent, but it needs to be known amongst boxing historians that he for SURE was on drugs in that fight. He had a vicious ******* addiction, there is no chance in hell Pryor would go in clean. Drug addicts can't do this and if he did he wouldn't have been running around at 400 mph for 15 rounds. So let's try not to romanticize Pryor by defending him because you don't want to believe it. That being said, I am a huge fan of Pryor, but also being a realist. The crushed up asthma pills was probably true but also just a soft diversion from some other additional harder substances.

Arguello's career took a slow turn in a different direction after Pryor broke him. This is what puts Arguello down the list in great conversations. Realistically though, expecting Arguello, who 2 years prior was at 126 lbs to go in at 140 and beat a coked out ATG 140 lbder in his prime is asking too much of any fighter. It would be like asking a great fighter like Leonard, to move up to 175 in 2 years and beat Michael Spinks or Ezzard Charles.

With that out of the picture, how does Arguello look, h2h prime for prime against those in his prime weight class (probably 130). However, he has some pretty overlooked wins at 126 as well. I would be curious how Arguello stacks up against Sanchez, or Chavez at 135.
