Shavers was very erratic. One day he would beat Norton in one round, then the next he gets stopped by Ron Lyle. Who was a solid fighter but far from a great one. Also Jerry Quarry knocked out Shavers in one round.

Ellis won the vacant WBA title by outpointing Gerry Quarry, & lost it by KO to Joe Frazier who unified the titles..
Bugner as already stated fought Ali for the title..
Lyle also fought Ali for the title, as did Earnie Shavers..
All of them have at one time or another fought for a world title, & more relevently, have all fought each other to..
Ironically, Ellis who lost to all of them, was the only one (besides Ali of course) who actually won a version of the title..

SRR, Fulmer, Pender, Basilio is a 4 but I can't help thinking there must be a five in that era and weight category can think of a few who fought at least two of them I think someone who has more patience than me will add a 5th.
