His disrepectful treatment of Rosario (Camacho-Rosario) made me realize that Merchant was a predator who used fighters for his own gain; IMO he only claimed to love the game but was actually a condescending opportunist prick.

Tyson was uneducated but street smart and recognized what Merchant was, so cut him off.

Never thought much of HBO across the board.

The manner in which they announced Chavez-Taylor I is probably the worst presentation of a prize fight, ever! Never has a prejudice been so obvious.
I give Larry a pass because he was usually drunk

        - - The whole manner of the way that fight developed was guaranteed to short circuit normal logical safeguards.

As to Merchant, he started as a squirrely wannabee like any noob to become quite knowledgeable and at least had the dignity not to interrupt the fight and fighters in action with incessant nonsensical diarrhea like Lamps. Lamps was the preener who was never smart enough to figure out he shouldn't be arguing wif Big George who knew more and had more intelligence on his worst day than Lamps on his best day.

And Larry even besotted in his latter days was infinitely better than the rest save Manny. Look at the way Larry utterly SAVAGED Vitali in the Byrd fight compared to the way he was gushing all over Vitali in the Lewis fight. He's fight fan first and foremost, and sometimes we let our emotions overrule logic.

At anyrate, I mute the sound of any broadcast to cutout the pathetic production values of modern broadcasting that disrupts concentration on fights. That allows me to better understand how to score a fight and where any controversy over the scoring is.

Years back we use to kill the sound on TV football games and turn on the radio. Radio announcers are too busy calling the action to waste our time with their opinions. Wish I could do the same thing with prize fighting.

I wonder if fights are ever broadcast on radio any longer.

            - - Dunno since I divorced the NFL when it was becoming the ThugFL with Qs wearing petticoats, what 15 yrs ago? About the same time as I divorced MLB because of incessant mgr time stoppages of the game because of the neutering of the pitchers and growing use of algorithms that now also pollutes the NFL..

By that time I'd already proven it was possible for Bonds to gain the extra muscle at his advanced age as well as proved he was most likely on some steroid program because of the sudden spike in his already HOF statistical numbers.

Only reason I watch boxing to even bother to comment is because of 400 + years of "modern" professional boxing history. Since boxing stats were poorly recorded then and only nominally improved upon today and is algorithm proof, it remains the closest to it's roots in spite of massive referee interference and judge payola today.

Floyd would have smoked you, Queensbury Drools.

With one hand tied behind his back and blindfolded.

Hopkins would have given you the Felix Trinidad treatment...except 1,000 times worse.

Hatton and Corrales couldn't get to a decision. But Queenie is?

They were both world class fighters.
