A key point that proves oldschool fighters were tougher and better chinned

lastly, some of you actually think new boxers are faster and stronger, but won’t think the conditions of another time could breed a tougher more durable oponent.Last edited by them_apples; 06-19-2022, 11:07 PM.Comment

That means Both of you didn't even read my post. These better chinned people walk this earth right now as well, but they aren't funneled into boxing anymore. Just like how 7 fters werent funneled into basketball 50 years ago. In boxing, it used to expected that the men "fought". A good chin was a necessity to make it in boxing, because while you were learning a glass jawed athlete would get knocked out before they could improve. The sport now allows for much less contact, and less rounds.

Back in the day, it was expected that the men "fought" - unlike today where boxers are "quitting or losing without a mark on their faces". This idea of boxers today giving up too quickly, without doing their best, is just another fantasy of yours... like all the other weird things you are saying, with the sole purpose of denigrating today's boxing/boxers.

And how exactly is this different from today? Hasn't it always been like this... that glass jawed boxers quickly get weeded out, because they can't take a punch? It was like that 100 years ago - just as it is today.

you aren’t expected to fight or win via effective punching, its an ammy points system.
10-12 oz gloves (foam) in the ams
10 count was a real thing
I don’t really need to elaborate though.
keep in mind, just because lefthook is agreeing with you, it doesn’t mean all the points I bring up are suddenly “weird”. All it would take is one person to see my point of view and the playing field is even once again. So try and keep it realistic here.Last edited by them_apples; 06-20-2022, 09:13 PM.Comment

fights are just stopped much earlier than they were before.
most new fighters have glass jaws.
most new school fighters fight like amateurs and have no real concept what a knockout artist is.
Lennox is using amateur style punches.
On Bivol vs Canelo:
they just don't know how to actually fight compared to better fighters of the past.
as far as the tapes go it seems as though they are better chinned as well.
modern fighters who gas after 4 and only look good for 2 rounds.
what we have today are padwork fighters, robotic fighters trained to score points. Easy to figure out and time after a few rounds - most of them fade and lack knockout power because they keep their hands too high (shoulders always tight) with the amateur style of blocking (great for blocking ineffective half punches in bunches and also letting judges know the punches didn’t land. In addition to padwork in general creating fighters that pull their punches.
I'm sorry, maybe it's just me... but I find it strange (if you don't like "weird"), how it's possible to be this much biased against modern fighters! If you like the oldtimers, that's fine... most of us here do. But this constant attempt, in post after post, to put down precent day fighters, using arguments that can't be verified or backed up by anything... well, I find it very strange. Just take the title of this very thread... as if there is some way we could possibly PROVE, that the oldtimers had stronger chins than today. And you talk about keeping it realistic...Last edited by Bundana; 06-21-2022, 02:50 AM.Comment

Just to chime in here, there were obvious exceptions to this point. While reading through this thread the name of Bob Satterfield kept popping into top my head.....Comment

especially when talking about box rec. I applaud those behind the site doing their best to give us data, but lets not forget the 1000s upon 1000s of unregistered boxing matches that aren’t in the database.
seriously though some of those quotes are really good points. Although I shouldn’t have ridiculed Lennox so badly.Last edited by them_apples; 06-21-2022, 05:23 PM.Comment
