- -Anyone think Fury/Wilder will be 2021 fight of the year?

Ring LUVs Fury for some mysterious reason with only that single Ring defense of their title in 5 years of being listed as Ring Champ.

Come on you know they recognize him becuse he is the closest to lineal - they stuck by Ali until he announced his retirement in 1970 and they stuck by Spinks (thus making Tyson's claim 'undisputed' HW Champion an oxymoron; and preserving Floyd Patterson as the youngest HW Champion.)

They have been consistent dispite various ownership changes.

Think casuals (crossover sports fans). - It is the only exciting fight this year NOT filled with unknown (sometimes unpronounceable Latino and Eastern European) surnames. Yea I suspect The Ring goes with the popularly known Fury (unless the Lopez fight turns into a barn burner).

I think they also want to give it to Fury vs Wilder 3, but partially they want to help promote the Heavyweight division more. It’s a special occasion when the Heavyweight class really ignites like this.

They say the fight game goes as goes the HWs . . . But I am not sure Fury has had (or will have) the impact to be the next 'savior' of the game?

'SAVIOR' --> Tyson; Ali; Marciano; Louis; Dempsey --> each came along and (for different reasons) made the casual sport fan stop and take notice, and in their time made the fight game the touch stone for sport excitement.

The list is short; I don't think Fury even comes near reaching that level of stardom (yet).

I believe, we the geeks that love the game so much that we gather here and post, are over rating that fight's (Wilder III) impact on the general sporting community.

To the casual fan Fury has only one great fight under his belt (his last fight).

He doesn't have the explosiveness of a Tyson or Dempsey; the underdog romantic relentless of a Marciano; the brash and controversy of a Clay; or the national embracement of a Louis.

I suspect he rouses considerably more excitement in Britian, but here in the States he is still viewd as a touch silly. He dosn't wow phyically, his style at times is boring, to some he is still unproven.

I do believe you're right regarding The Ring Magazine, they will want to.promote the game by promoting the HWs, so there is a good chance it becomes FOY. (Unless the purists are able to out vote the ones with their eyes on the dollar signs, then you may see a Canleo, or similar fighter slip in there.)

But I think, through wishful thinking, we are all over rating the impact Fury (and the Wilder fights) is having on the general sports fan.

This fight may very well become FOY for 2021 but IMHO Fury ain't the guy to 'save' the game.

Women don't want to fuc him and adolescent boys don't want to be him. Hell, I would probably pass on having a beer with him, he comes across weird.

I think the most important thing to keep in my mind is that in all previous eras of Heavyweight boxing, MMA didn’t exist. Now America is kinda on an MMA craze and isn’t paying as much attention to Boxing. And that’s lessening in the impact that the sport’s biggest stars could be having if it weren’t for the fact they have to compete with the newer kid on the block.

Actually AJ is the one who saved the hvy division by unifying with his Herculean cleansing of Haymon's hvy stable in England. And like Wlad, has had his fragilities. I've no doubt he'll win the Usyk rematch.

Meanwhile, Blubber Fury will be entering his 6th yr as Ring Champ with only a single defense vs his WBC mandatory, Dillian Whyte, whom AJ thrashed so thoroughly that he turned down a record purse when AJ was seeking a replacement for the drug infused Big Baby. So when Fury fights Whyte for the Ring belt, it will be two guys having turned down record purses vs AJ with the Challenger already having been disposed of by AJ.

Be interesting how Doogie and his Ring Boys gonna spin that.
