Mike McCallum: Routes to the Body

A compilation from one of my favorite boxing channels on YouTube. I feel like the remix of an old school horror movie theme was a very clever choice for a guy who’s nickname originates from a 50s alien invasion movie.

Was sad to watch him fight Roy Jones and James Toney at the end. He was way past his best.

He may not have been at his prime when he fought Toney but he was still very experienced and formidable. Though I haven’t finished his fight with Roy Jones, I have a feeling the same can’t be said that time, he appeared to way too old.

Jones won the fight pretty easily, seemed to barely broke a sweat and took it easy actually, because Mike was one of his idols

Pre-move to heavyweight, Jones looked unstoppable at 175.

He was totally finished by the time he fought Toney the 3rd time and lost clearly.

The first and second time you could easily argue he won both. Especially the 2nd one.

I was glad to see him resurface a couple of years ago as a trainer to Jessie Vargas, and hoped he would work with more young fighters.

But I haven't heard much on that front since.

Yeah I thought he outworked Toney in the 2nd. I thought Toney won the first though

Had the first a draw. Wouldn't argue with a W either way.

Second fight I thought McCallum won but it was close enough where you could argue it the other way like how it went.

First fight was a great fight.
