I reckon Dempsey would have battered Greb

Doing well against Dempsey during sparring sessions with big gloves is very different in a real fight with 5 oz gloves.
Brennan and Miske were both counted out and Gibbons fought only to survive to last the distance.
No 160 pound middleweight will take a solid blow from prime Dempsey in a vital area and not be counted out. At heavyweight a case can be made that weight is much less important. At lighter weights 5 pounds can be an advantage. Here Dempsey outweighs his opponent by 25-30 pounds and he was a terrific ko puncher.
Think prime Foreman vs Monzon, Frazier vs Benvenuti, Marciano vs SRR. Would any of these middleweight champions take the best shot from these power punchers and not be counted out? Of course not.Comment

Perhaps hard to do since we have no idea what Greb looked like in an actual fight.Comment

Very low odds vs prime Dempsey. It would not matter what middleweight. One punch ends it.
To better characterize imagine Frazier in his absolute prime vs any middleweight. First solid left hook ends it. Middleweights are not built to take heavyweight punches especially encased within 5 oz horsehair filled “bricks” they called fight gloves in those days.Comment

- -Best case scenario for Greb would be the Billy Conn KO BY Joe Louis in an off night were Joe overtrained to lose wt so as to not be perceived as a big bully. Where's KlompFoot when we need him?Comment

No, the best case scenario would be Greb nimbly getting out of the way of Dempseys attack and overwhelming him with speed, movement and punches as he did when they sparred. Could he do it over the, 10, 12 or 15 rounds? No one can say for sure. But we know he did it in three different sparring sessions that Dempsey wasn't overtrained for.Comment
