So the. Conclusion is we didn't miss any great fights just some predictable mandatories.

If Ali was still champ I wonder what Frazier's run up to a title fight would have looked like?

Would it still have been Mathis and Ellis or would he have had to prove himself against some of the other ranked fighters as well?

Would we have gotten a Frazier- Patterson or Liston fight? ( Assuming his run is 68-69.)

It seems a little like Frazier came in through a side door via the NYSAC. Ellis seems to have come the more traditional route via the WBA tournament.

          - -Didn't nysac precede WBC? At any rate, it took the Vietnam War, Supreme Court decision, and Joe Frazier to make Ali's first mega fight. Joe fought far better comp Cong into that fight than Ali, who after getting publically whooped fought Joes leftovers to build himself up inbetween getting whooped by Joe protege Kenny.

I not sure what the connection between the NYSAC and the Meixcan based WBC might be but after Smokin ended the dispute by KOing Ellis the NYSAC never again sought to crown a champion.

When Frazier fought Ellis we were all (the press) calling Frazier the 'New York' champion even though several other States had also recognized the Frazier- Mathis fight as a World Champion fight. But none of them were important Staes so we called Frazier the 'New York' recognized champ.

I don't know what year the WBC came into existence but the WBA (NBA) was challenging or recognizing the 'New York champs' (or even the lineal champs) as far back to 1921 (Carpentier- Dempsey)

The NBA came into existence as a direct challenge to what it perceived as New York (NYSAC) bias.

When did the WBC appear, but more importantly when did it gain prestige? Who was its first big name champion, do you know?
