  • Hector Camacho

Just got done watching the Showtime documentary on Camacho and been on a bit of a binge watching his fights. Love his style but seemed a bit like an underachiever considering his natural ability. Just wondering what people’s options were on the Macho man?

Extremely fast hands, very skilled and great chin but not alot of power. I believe his KO's at the lighter weights were mostly from opponents not seeing the punches. Got overly careful in his career after Edwin Rosario cracked him a couple of times and hurt him in their 1986 fight. I thought Rosario had him in round 6 but Camacho escaped and boxed safely the rest of the way. Moved up in weight and had less power than at the lighter weights but the chin was still very good. Very boring to watch after the Rosario fight IMO. I think he moved up in weight too much. Lightweight should have been his maximum IMO. I would agree that his career should have been better.

Yes I agree that he shouldn’t have moved up as much as he did. Seems like with many 80s fighters the drugs spoiled his career from being greater. I haven’t seen many fighters with as much speed and natural ability as Camacho yet I never hear about him in discussions. Seems a lot of people are also put off by his later style and personality

Remember, at times when I watched him live on telly, I asked myself if he was really human or if it was a programmed robot I witnessed.
          Those fast hands ...

When Camacho first showed up he was fast and just had some huge cahones, he would mix it up and he was exciting as he11. He was my first favorite fighter. But that changed after Rosario. I watched him 'fight' in his next bout and was just bored. He was still fast, still skilled but Rosario seemed to heal stomp his cahones in to oblivion. He was a great little fighter who used to be exciting to watch but again, Rosario took his cahones and it just bored me to watch him anymore. Pre Rosario, Camacho was great. But post Rosario..............Rockin'

              Naw, wrestling is fake.

Except for the time Fritz Von Erich kicked Rocky Marciano's butt.

                - -Camacho the most naturally gifted of hand and foot I've ever seen until he got into the nose candy. You can take the kid outta the hood, but taking the punk outta him has always been problematic.

I remember Leonard commentating one of Camacho's fights. He said something along the lines of "and I thought I was fast". Camacho was blessed with hand and foot speed that was off the charts.

Or the time Butterbean knocked out Bart Gunn at Wrestlemania. Or whatever Inoki was doing with Ali.
