  • Wilfredo Gomez

Maybe this 1-hr doc has been posted here before, but I enjoyed learning more about Wilfredo Gomez.

I’m old enough to remember the exciting build-up to the fight against Carlos Zarate (52–0; 51 KOs). It was huge.

One bad little man. I'm going to watch your video. He wasn't 52-0 when he faced Zarate though. He had under 50 bouts in his bad assed career........Rockin'

Hope you like it. Often, former fighters' post-career lives ain't that glorious, so we owe them to remember them.

Zarate underachieved that night against Gomez, or maybe it was Gomez who made him look bad.

I started following boxing in the 1970s, and one of the first fights outside the heavy division that really caught
my interest was Zarate vs Alfonso Zamora.
Boxrec often gives us good backgrounds of fights, as this one:

Is "Gomez," a top 10 Spanish surname? Top 5?

Garcia must be the most common of all.

              Either Garcia or Lopez.

Gomez had an unbelievable aura about him until he ran into Sal Sanchez. I even believe he was the betting favorite for that fight if memory serves me correctly. His Puerto Rican fans must have been absolutely stunned by the outcome.
