Hearns wanted to accomplish what no other fighter had accomplished before him which was to win world titles at 4 different weight classes.
He never had any plans staying at LHW, it was simply a part of his campaign to win titles at four different weights, although he did fight as a light heavy against when he beat Virgil Hill.
