Vitali's punching power

Well youre wrong! He has kayoed far more opponents than Lewis. **** Lewis. There wasn't really much difference between the '03 Lewis and the prime Lewis, it's all BS. Lewis almost lost to Ray Mercer for god's sake!
I'm sick and tired of this Lewis propaganda. The man got awarded the WBC belt TWICE and suddenly he's like a top 5 ATG!
Lol at this kid, he came in with all black fighters as his favorites, then i destroyed him and now his true colours show.
You're shot mate, i did to you what calzaghe did to lacy, you may as well retire.Comment

Didn't mean to turn this into a bate thread, I just feel he is the Rocky Marciano of this era. Beats up sub par competition and wears them out in the later round thus resulting in his high Ko %. After seeing Lewis, called chinny by some, walk threw his biggest punches it makes me question his power.Comment

Vitali rarely beats top ranked contenders, his brother is the one who does more of that.
Vitali has heavy hands, but throws lots of arm punches. Similar in a way to Calzaghe. Now I'm not at all saying Calzaghe and Vitali have similar styles, but I think both of them have fairly heavy hands and good enough workrates so they can throw punches improperly (Calzaghe slapping to protect his hands, Vitali throwing arm shots and concentrating more on accuracy more than putting the right leverage on it) and still do damage. Vitali obviously stops guys on a higher % than Joe.
Vitali lets the damage build up, but he's very unlikely to really hurt a guy or change the course of a bout with one shot (at least against decent opposition). For instance, Corrie Sanders got taken out with one shot by Nate Tubbs, dropped by Rahman, but his fat golfing ass stayed on his feet for round after round of punishment against Vitali.Last edited by Thread Stealer; 08-11-2009, 01:44 AM.Comment

But how many are TKOs? Vitali is a stoppage king, not a KO king.

37 actually. No doubt he was a bit out of shape and past his best. But not quite as past it as is sometimes made out. He did peak in his early 30s after all and stayed prime into his mid. Good performance by both fighters in that one.
Anyway, Vitali doesn't have one punch KO power, he's more of a Pavlik type accumulation puncher. Doesn't hit as hard as his brother, and like Wlad, probably hits harder with the left hook.
To ThreadStealer, pretty cold with the Calzaghe comparison, lol, but I get what you're saying.Comment

Stoppages and KO's are sometimes the same thing. If a ref stops the fight before the final count, that can be counted as a TKO.Comment

We're talking about Vitali Klitschko here. How many times do you recall his opponent being laid out flat on his back? Guys like George Foreman, Earnie Shavers, Mike Tyson, and Joe Louis did this. Vitali on the other hand struggles to knock people down. An accumulation of punishment cause refs to step into his fights. Very rarely were guys unable to beat a 10 count and the ref just refused to count to 10.Comment
