I still had a ring magazine issue around 1992 with Sumbu Kalambay being the number 1 contender for Julian Jackson's WBC middleweight title, but Kalambay may have knew better thats why he opted to fight Steve Collins instead and beat him for the WBO strap, he later lost it to Chris Pyatt.

off topic: Love that GreatA's pic of Tyson and Holyfield together, where did this took place.

Kalambay was a slick fighter, good skills too. Big shock when he got knocked out in 1 by Nunn.

I was and still am Michael Nunns biggest fan, but even I thought at the time that Kalambay was never gonna end up like this.

Nunn should of gone on to achieve much more than he did.

I just watched Kalambay vs Barkley, Herol Graham 2 and man this guy was slick as fcuk and had every counter punch in the book.

I already knew he was slick from the schooling his give McCallum and the close rematch they had but he took Barkley to school!

This is guy was such a smart fighter and extremely!! underrated.

I thought Graham beat him though, but Herol can frustrate the best of em, he was giving Jackson hell before he got knocked out, he was Boxing Charles Brewer's ears off at age 38 and he to gave McCallum all he could handle, so no shame in that, plus i think he was a bit past it by then anyway, he did not look as sharp as in the Barkley, McCallum 1 fights anyway.

I would advise anyone to watch this guy if they wanna learn how to slip and counter because he was brilliant at it. As a counter puncher he must be up there with McCallum, Whitaker, Toney.

He would roll the shoulder when you threw the right hand and slip short little uppercuts in on the way out as he is pivoting away, class.

He would catch your left hook to the body with the elbow and nail you with short uppercuts.

Just such a smart fighter and his reflexes were unbelievably fast, thats probably what made him so good at countering if the truth be known.

Kalambay was a highly skilled fighter. One major shortcoming was that he had trouble with southpaws. Kalule outpointed him in Italy despite being down twice) and Nunn blasted him out in a single round.

Maybe you'd like this pic with the tower of power and the pillsbury doughboy as well:

Not seen the Kalule fight but i can see why you would say that because i thought he had trouble adapting to Graham's Southpaw style.
