If so then Ali is the quintessential example of having a chin which was "too good." It carried him through his first comeback when his footspeed (and thus defense) had dissipated. It probably also led to his lazy sparring style in which he took too many shots. Even when he was completely shot it didn't crack, accumulating even more punishment (although to be fair Holmes could have probably TKOd the medicated version of Ali he faced if he had gone all out, not that it would have been much of an achievement).
Boxers who's chin was their downfall...

Joe frazier. It was only so long that frazier's camp could hand pick their opponents and hide his weak chin.Yank durham almost had a heart attack during the first frazier-bonavena fight when frazier was manhandled and knocked down twice and recieved the gift of god when frazier got the decision,Durham swore no more which led to an entire career's worth of ducking every great heavyweight puncher of that era
frazier could have been the greatest heavyweight of all time had he had the guts and the chin to fight and beat all comers but unfortunately god never blessed him with thoseComment

Hey mickey malone you think Moorer had a glass chin ? not saying you are wrong but i always thought he had a chin like JMM, he can be hurt often but has lots of heart to keep getting up. Stewart, Cooper and Holyfield 2. Holyfield put the guy down how many times and he kept getting back up.
Mark Breland .................Starling 1 & Howard Davis KTFO
I gotta say Terry Norris because if my boy had a chin he could of been truly exceptional.
Junior Jones is my pick though, this guy had it all imo but he just could not take a punch at ALL!!!!!
Ive seen Jones fights with Barrera and Orlando Canazalez and i still dont know how he got by those two fighters without getting KTFO, well actually i do his Boxing skills, but his chin was terrible!!!!!!!!!!!! Canazalez had lost a step to be fair so......
The reason i say Jones is because he hardly ever recovered when he got hurt, he was KTFO Bam Bam Johnson who staggered him many many times throughout the fight eventually stopping him late, he was Ko'ed by Darryl Pinckney who was a BUM!!! he then regrouped and beat MAB, Canazalez then he walks into a right hand from Mckinney on the Hamed/Kelly undercard and got stopped, he had a great fight with Paul Ingle but he ended up getting stopped again, oh yeah the loss to Morales to.
The were question marks about Jones's stamina and him boiling down in weight etc, but bottom line is he had a glass jaw, which was a shame because he could of dominated at the lower weights imo.Comment

Ref: Dynamite Kid.. Moorer's more known for going down as opposed to out, so I suppose it's more down to how you remember the KO's, & although not many, the ones against Foreman & Tua do tend to stick in the mind.. Especially against Foreman, because he was in his prime & coasting the fight.. Michael's career was never quite the same after that fight..
He's similar to Hearns, & many have mentioned him.. Both have only been KTFO twice, but dramatically.. Both have also been TKO'd once & twice respectively, but only at world level, with 1 of those being when Hearns sustained a limb injury against Uriah Grant.. Niether of the above have particularly bad chins, but both have shown the odd weakness at championship level..
Junior Jones is a good call.. Seems he's been overlooked as Barrera's boogieman.. But people tend to forget, he was KTFO 3 times, but not always in career defining fights..Last edited by mickey malone; 08-05-2009, 06:54 AM.Comment

Id agree with that, he definitely had a shaky chin.
I have a career set of Junior Jones, shame he had no chin because he could of been something special. Apparently one journo was tipping him to be an ATG, early his career this was to. I bet that guy felt sheepish when he realized Junior could not take a punchComment

When Jones got hurt by McKinney you just knew that fight was over, his recuperative powers were terrible.
Having said that i seem to remember him getting hurt momentarily by Canazalez and Tom Johnson (boring fight) and he managed to ride it out but on the whole yeah................. glass!!Comment
