He never made the mistake of fighting as a middleweight again.

Benvenuti won rematches against fighters that he should've easily beaten the first time around. It was clear that Benvenuti was not the same, losing a decision to Fermin Chirino in between and being demolished in just 3 rounds by Monzon. He was done which is why he retired.

Ortiz was a natural bantamweight but he was more than capable of fighting at featherweight. It is not like Pep was a big featherweight, both were the same height.

Ortiz had wins over Enrique Bolanos, Carlos Chavez, Lauro Salas as a featherweight.

He was also at the peak of his boxing career when he fought Pep who decisively outboxed him.

Pep fought many ranked lightweights but Monzon never stepped up against the light heavyweights.
There was talk of Monzon and Foster fighting but it fell though. Another reason Monzon didn't move up was that becuase his good friend Victor Emilio Galindez was a champion at LHW.

If you want to talk about Pep beating prime fighters, Monzon defeated the hardest non punching hevayweight in the sport Valdez who is the only man who ko'd Briscoe.

And you say pep beat alot of lightweights why didn't he fight for the lightweight title then?

And you say Pep and Otiz were the same size lots of fighters are the same size but one fighter can still have a much bigger frame than the other.

Valdez was a great win for Monzon, in my opinion it may even count as Monzon's career best.

Pep fought the lightweight champion Sammy Angott in a non-title bout and lost a close decision in which Angott used every trick in the book (clinching, holding & hitting, headbutts, elbows, low blows) to beat Pep. The judges scored it 5-4-1 for Angott.

He also beat a prime Paddy DeMarco who later won the lightweight title as well as Armand Savoie who beat the lightweight champion in a non-title bout.

Pep had a bigger frame but Ortiz was not overmatched because of Pep's size. He didn't lose because Pep was tougher or stronger or hit too hard, it's because he couldn't hit him.
