How would the Duran who beat Leonard in Montreal do against the best 147lb version of the great Emile Griffith, say the one who ko'd Paret, or dominated Gaspar Ortega in their second meeting? Who wins and how would it go?

Duran-Griffith 147

This is a very interesting one, and pretty funny that i was thinking about who would win out the two a few hours before you posted this up.
Both at their peak at 147, its a pretty hard one. Griffith was a consummate boxer, who had very quick feet and had a good tight defence. He had a lot of different wonderfull array of punchers in his arsenal, which he threw in dazzling bursts. He also had a cast iron chin at 147, never stopped at the weight.
As for Duarn at his peak, well against Leonard on that night, he showed imense strength and showed quick hands and threw lovely combinations and beat Leonard to the punch, as Leonard said ''i never realized he was so quick or that he punched so hard''
That only thing that i think Griffith could have a advantage in that he fought at 147 alot more than Duran, and it never happened much but the one style Duran struggled with was a mover/boxer. Leonard outboxed him in the rematch, Wilfred Benitez outboxed him, tricky Kirkland Laing outboxed him, Esteban De Jesus outboxed the first time and dropped him. So there ae prime examples of what i'am talking about.
And Griffith had a great boxing brain, and had fast feet and fast combinations that i think would of troubled Duran. The only problem with Griffith was he had a tendacy to blow hot and cold.
Now i assuming it would be a 15 round fight, Early on i'd expect Griffith to use movement and use his fast feet and combinations to try and out hussle Duran, as Duran applies clever pressure and try's to bully Griffth around the ring, and also plays his dirty tactis.
I'd see this fight going 2 ways, the Duran that turned up for Leonard was so hungry and not many would of beat him that night, and i see Duran just out hussling Griffith to a UD 15.
And then i feel Griffith could outbox Duran, using his fast feet and quick combinations. When Griffith turned up on form he was outstanding. And done great things.
But my Prediction would be a Duran win, very hard to pick, but i edge toward a Duran decision, but i wound't rule out a Griffith win.

Very interesting matchup here. Great thread.
This is the definition of a "pick 'em" fight.
My gut is telling me that Griffith would outwork Duran to a close, but unanimous decision. It's very hard for me to pick against Griffith, especially the 147lbs version who fought Ortega and Paret the first time.
That said, a Duran victory is within the realm of possibility as well.
But I'd be betting on Griffith.

I know Duran was awesome in the first Leonard fight, but I honestly don't think he could manhandle Griffith the way he did Leonard. Griffith was something to behold at 147, with the strength, skills and toughness to give any great welter a run for his money. My guess is Duran would have his moments, but Emile's strength to be the difference and he'd win a competitive decision, akin to Duran-Hagler.

Oddly enough, they both share the ignominy of being blasted to bits by one punch KOs early, Griffith against Reuben Carter and Duran by Hearns.
I'd give the edge to Duran due to his p4p ranking, but you might not want to bet the farm in this one.
